That link said nothing about crime, just stuff about pollution, hurricanes, and oil spills. They did leave out though we have the #6 economy and that the housing bubble never really effected Houston like other cities. They also bring up Galveston which has nothing to do with Houston. I don't know any of the crime stats but it's no worse than any major city. Crime is a part of big cities, no way around it other than live within areas with less of it.     4951

@pacmax: Where is crime not bad? Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, there is always going to be crime.
Then again, if you live in the middle of nowhere, someone would probably show up to steal all your stuff and nobody would be around to know about it. 4951

I'm surprised Philly beat out DC.  DC is by far the scariest place I've ever traveled to.I felt like I was being constantly eyeballed by predators.Been to Philly many times (family there), and felt safe in most parts.   4951

@beastmode: I woukd NEVER want to live in El Paso...for several reasons, I'm shocked that LA has a low crime rating, Seattle has a super high suicide rate, and NY doesn't appeal to me at all.
I'll stick with Houston.  4951

The crime in these cities is also isolated in specific areas so to deem a whole city as a crime infested underworld is not telling the whole story and no stats dig into it on that level. Nobody even wants to talk about that fact. These are huge cities. There are pockets of little to no crime and pockets where police let things get out of control just so long as they keep it in their slums. 4951

These lists all over the place. I looked at a bunch of them. Bottom line is that Houston is actually not bad, certainly not great but I've visited many of those cities and lived in some and I'd take Houston any day. Baltimore is a fun city but get off the beaten path and you will probably get beat down. Same for almost all of them. 4951

Houston is the 4th largest city in the US.  You would have to be somewhat nutty to think it isn't going to have a high crime rate.    We aren't talking about the 4th largest city in a state, but in the country. And no way in hades would I ever feel save or live in El Paso either!  How in the world did Phoenix AZ not make that list? And Chicago isn't on there?lmaoYeah this is a valid list…

@Fallon: I was thinking the same thing about Chicago and the validity of the list.

I'm sure it is. It is the 4th largest city in the good ole USA.  Plus...it's one of the dirtiest cities that I've ever visited.  Still, I like Houston. There's something for everyone.  Well, except mountains, hills and clean lakes. But hey...close enough. 4951
