Teachers- what are your favorite types of gifts to get from students? We always try to do thoughtful & personal, but I figured I'd ask you guys. What kind of gifts do y'all like & HOPE to get from your students? 4951

While I love being a teacher, I do NOT like getting gifts that say the word "teacher" on them.  Here are some pointers:Ask your child what kind of personal items are in the classroom.  Does the teacher have family photos?  Pictures of kids, a dog/cat, etc.?  Any sports team logos or posters, etc.?  Those are always good clues.I'm a coffee drinker, so anything related to that, or anything technology, is always good.  Never give cologne or perfume, as those are very personal items and the teacher already has their own preferences in those areas.  Gift cards are always a good choice.  And avoid giving any kind of alcohol to the teacher; we all appreciate that kind of gift, but alcohol is banned on school property. 4951

I'd say after dealing with the kiddo's/parents for this long since the start of the school year alcohol must sound like a great gift!  LOL 4951

@AstroKing:  Why don't you like things with 'teacher' on them?  Got too many?

@Heathur:

Personal gifts are nice but no apple/teacher stuff. . Christmas ornaments or card made by the student, kleenex, organizational items, fun office supplies that would not be "standard issue" from the supply closet, a package of stickers. The nicest has been a class gift to go for dinner. The kids all kicked in $3-5 and that purchased a very nice gift card to a restaurant that I had mentioned that I had always wanted to try.

If you were planning on spending more, an Italian sports car would be great. Emoticon

I am not a teacher but I have heard from teachers in the past that they get so much dust collectors.  I think the best gift is a Starbucks gift card.  They have so many kinds of hot and cold beverages for anyone!  Plus, it is not cheap there so I think it is a nice treat.  I would stay away from alcohol.  They might be reformed alcoholics or have health issues where they cannot drink.   4951

I think its really nice of those of you giving thoughts to the teachers.  I am not a teacher but had two girls and was lucky enough to have great teachers.   It means a lot. 4951

Seems to me that gift cards might be the best.  Then the teacher can get what they really want, and can use. 4951

Honestly, with all the budget cutbacks, a gift card to an office supply or teacher supply is like gold to many teachers. 4951

@Annie: That's an excellent suggestion.  Both of our kids are teachers and often have to pay for supplies out of their pocket.

I'm not a teacher but just about everyone like Starbucks and restaurant gift cards. Since teachers end up buying classroom items out of their own pocket, maybe Office Depot or a teachers supply GC. Add a note of thanks and appreciation to personalize it. 4951

@Annie Are baked goods appropriate for teachers? I know you can't send them for the entire class but I'm a baker so I am ALWAYS wanting to bake along with the gift we buy for the teacher. 4951
