If she puts it up in a classified ad, make sure she is VERY careful about who she gives it to. She can ask for a "re-homing" fee, but not "sell" it. The re-homing fee usually keeps bad people from getting the dog. But, if it is a kind that can be used as a bait dog, or be sold....be very careful. That is how a lot of really bad people get their dogs. They look on line for "free" dogs. A lot of rescue groups can/will help your daughter out if she is willing to foster the dog until it is adopted. That way, it will get exposure to potential adopters, and she will have the peace of mind knowing it will go to a good home.Â
I do want you to know that if she does take it to the pound as a stray...they will most likely put it down right away - as soon as the "stray hold" is up (which is usually around 3 days). The local area animal rescue groups are Twyla's Friends, V.A.P.: Volunteers for Animal Protection. Those are the ones I know of. How old is it? What kind is it? Male/female? Neutered/Spayed? It really will help if it has all of its shots and is already fixed too. GOOD LUCK!!!
@pharlap: Thank you so much for the info, we are just looking for a good home for Sugar, not sell it. If no one here is interested, I'll check into the rescue groups you listed, I will not let it go to the pound. He's almost 3, 1/2 Border Collie 1/2 Australian Shepard, he is Neutered, and has all his shots, and is on heart worm preventative.
