Agree or disagree:

We do so many of those defending the outrageous pay of American CEO's fail to see that NO ONE is arguing that CEO's should make a pittance? It wasn't that long ago that American CEO's made about 400 times the amount of highest hourly wage earners and no one thought it was out of line or unseemly or that they were exploiting those who work. Ever since January 20, 1981, there has been a cult of wealth worship in this country and it has not been good for America. Back in the days when some people posting DID work at McDonalds while in high school, they really were "entry level jobs" ... but the jobs they would have moved up to have all too often been exported to other lands by the priests of wealth and it has not been good for America, as, as we were promised. In the old days, workers were told that their work counted and if the company did well, they would also do well. Now we have a new system and work is spit on and the people who do the work are called stupid, lazy and unworthy of pay. If you really want to "take America back", how about taking it back to having jobs to move up into, taking it back to giving those who work some measure of respect. As we are slowly seeing, hating your neighbors and worshiping the elite who live behind gates surrounding the country club isn't accomplishing what we were promised it would and hate isn't really a good thing to run a country on. Starbucks has over 5,500 stores in over 50 countries. The CEO makes a ton of money, but he is responsible for overseeing a company that distributes, buys, and sells coffee, pastries, and goods to all these stores, all over the world. His cut of profits is under $5000 per store. Now that does seem a bit much, seeing as how that isn't what Starbucks corporate gets from these franchise stores, that's just what the CEO gets in his pocket, but on a per store basis, it isn't as outrageous as the hourly rate might make it appear, and if one thinks they can do it better for less, then we do live in the land of opportunity.... 4951

And people don't think wage disparity is a problem in this country? I know Sweden or Denmark or one of the countries in that region purposed legislation to limit the income gap between a CEO and a base line employee to 16x 4951

I'm all for CEO's and board members making huge salaries. If you dont like it, dont contribute to their company!

Besides, nobody whines about Lebron James or Alex Rodriquez making over 100K a game. I think becoming CEO of a large corporation is more impressive and it deserves a huge salary. 4951

@PedroDePacas: I don't think there is anything wrong with making the money you deserve, but many executives use their companies as a profit to pay themselves more but not their employees. In this instances there is absolutely no trickle down economics.

@Drekonix: It doesnt work that way. A board approves the salary of the top dogs. No executive uses their company as their own personal piggy bank. Those that do, get arrested.

And if the lower level employees have such a problem with it, they are more than capable of going back to school and/or finding another line of work. If the general public has a problem with it, they are more than capable of boycotting that company. 4951

Don't like your pay .....quit

Those CEO,s either started the succesful business or they went to school and worked their way up.....I promise they didn't get to the top by sitting on their butts *****ing about wages. Well except the few inherited fortunes. They should be allowed to pay what they want....it's their money and their business and if employees feel cheated they can work elsewhere and if enough feel treated badly and walk away then the business will fall. You can raise minimum wage to 100 an hour and your products will cost you the same. 4951

@PedroDePacas: Not everyone is able to go back to school. I myself have run out of money on my way to getting my bachelors degree and will have to take out ridiculously expensive student loans to achieve it. Wall Street can borrow money at 0.75% interest but I can't? Also they used the taxpayer bailout money to give themselves holiday bonuses, that's a fact. CEO's give themselves and family members they employee ludicrous bonuses all the time and it flies beneath the radar. Companies like Walmart discourage workers from unionizing to fight for their rights because unions are now seen as taboo socalist ideas when in reality they are within the best interest of the people. Companies and media outlets have invested billions of dollars in the propaganda campaign to demonizes these ideas. Without Unions we wouldn't have the 5 day work week, child labor laws and safer working conditions. The health hazards illustrated in Upton Sinclaires "The Jungle" might still be our reality.  The problem with the general public boycotting these companies is that they are so deeply imbedded within our society that they monopolize running mom and pop stores out of business. Walmart has almost anything you could need all under 1 roof. The new Kroger sells jewelry and furniture for crying out loud they might put companies like Skeero's out of business. I can't even think of where to go if I want to buy a movie anymore. Video and music stores almost don't exist anymore so I resort to walmart. If they don't have it Netflix has it digitized.

@Burnsway: Some CEO's started the business because they were in exactly the right place at the right time, people like bill gates and by all means he deserves his wealth because he revolutionized the computer industry but he's also a huge philanthropist. When he dies he has his money set to go almost entirely to charity leaving his children only a very small sum. The children that own walmart are the richest family in the US and they inherited that without ever working a day in their lives.The company that got the multi million dollar contract to build healthcare.gov only recieved it because the CEO is the wife of a Senator. Mitt Romney is living off the legacy of his father being the CEO of General Motors. He would never have went to an Ivy league school or become the CEO of his own company without an already enormous wealth. You can't always find work elsewhere if you don't have a specific skillset, not everyone is economically privileged enough to receive higher education.Until we fix the slums and ghettos of America and invest more in education this problem will never go away.Corporations like GE that earn a billion dollars in profit and are subsidized by the government (They get more money than we pay out in welfare to the poor) yet pay no taxes whatsoever are a huge part of the problem. We are literally paying them to send jobs overseas and yet the wind up on President Bush and President Obama's jobs council. How can someone who's sending their companies means of production to china be appointed to a Job council? It's rediciouls. The same people who are running monsanto and poisoning your food are serving as members of the FDA... it's unbelievable.

Your responses show that you have the "its just not fair" mentality.

Guess what? You are right, it isnt fair. Neither is life. You just have to suck it up, work hard and run your own race. Come up with your own bazillion dollar idea, work hard to make it a reality and then see how you feel when someone says you make too much money and it isnt fair. 4951

@PedroDePacas: Your right it's not fair, but it's also unethical that someone can contribute a million dollars to a congressman's campaign fund and then receive tax breaks that the rest of the population doesn't' get. I still believe in good will and think greed and living in extreme excess is fundamentally wrong and a problem in this country. I thought this was an intellectual discussion on how to address issues, not an It's not fair now get over it type conversation.

@Drekonix:
And what is the issue?  You think some people make too much money? So you think should there be some kind of cap on what people make? I dont want to live in a country where there is some kind of limit to my success. I damn sure dont want to live in one where people who dont choose to work as hard as I have get any say as to what my salary is. 4951
