Now the energy company sent me a late payment notice, followed by a disconnect notice.  I'm on auto pay, so I logged in to check. The "late payment" amount from the letter is scheduled for autopay tomorrow.  Now I'll have to call to make sure there isn't some problem with THEIR auto pay timing.  I don't pick the time auto pay triggers.  The energy company picks it.  If they need the payment earlier, then take the payment earlier. 4951

you need to move your auto pay back 3 days prior. because its not accounted for automatically.day1.. payment made,, date dueday 2.. payment process as acceptedday 3.. payment paid into system,, but you are late! by 2 days. its a scam,, they just want to charge you the extra fees. 4951

Cancel auto-pay, if anything could possibly go wrong it will.

I had direct tv charge me five autopays in one day one time, that was it for me.

Its not that hard to remember to pay your bills. 4951

@PedroDePacas:

Direct tv did that to us too! Took out 2 payments and then told us they couldn't reimburse us. Hubby was not happy about that one 4951

I don't allow companies to "pull" money from my account with auto-pay (except when I had a mortgage).  I have a calender showing when my bills are due.  About twice a month, I sit down and send ("push") my payments to those that will be coming due.  I just don't trust auto-pay for these reasons. 4951

Never ever use auto pay . you are giving them permission to take money from your account at any time they wish . If they ever feel they need to charged they will do so without asking. And you'll never be able to remove your account from their database. The only way to remove them is to open a new account.

dindn't your parents teach you to never trust strangers? 4951

Oh hell to the NO!

I won't do it, just a cluster f waiting to happen! It's hard enough getting problems fixed when something goes wrong, Much less give them that Kind of access.

And be warned when you pAy some on online banking too. Some companies don't accept online transfers of payment, the bank has to mail them a check! That means if you pay it a couple days early thinking the payment goes right out, it doesn't, the bank has to Mail the payment
and it's gonna take a week! So make sure whoever you set up off online payments actually take online payments. Ugh 4951

I guess I am the only one that uses it, then!If I didn't have auto pay, all my payments would be late. I hope I never have any of these problems. I guess I did have an issue with a car payment that was duplicated recently but since I have the account at the same credit union all I did was call them and they fixed it in minutes.  4951

You can just pay them yourself. Your bank offers online banking.

I use to just pay bills in the 1st and 15th but that doesn't work anymore. So now I write the due dates on the envelopes and put them In Order by date due. Online banking is so convenient I'd be lost without it. You can also set up automatic payments on there so the money goes out according to a schedule without doing the withdraw thing.

No reason not to!

I've set all my accounts up on my bank web site- I don't do auto pay- I do it manually. No way is someone taking money out of my account. Twice a month I go on and pay bills. All the bills get paid 2 weeks before they're due- except the mortgage company who refuses to come into the 21st century! 4951

Me too. I havent actually paid a bill myself since I had to get a new debit card. I like checking my bill account and being surprisedEmoticon ive only had a couple of mess ups in years and that was my fault for not transferring the right amount or at all.

I will not do auto-pay! I do not like someone having access to my account. Mistakes can be made. When the bills come in, I mark the envelopes with the due date and organize them by date due. I like to pay my bills on a weekly basis. That is just me.

I have almost all of my bills sent to me via email.  Most of them call it "paperless billing".  I can't trust the PO to get my bills to me or to get my payments delivered.  Most companies also have the ability to pay bills online.  When I originally started to set up bill-paying online with Chase, they had to mail checks to some companies (which I was avoiding), so I just setup an online account with each company. 4951
