My neighbor across the street likes to honk her car horn several times to round the kids up to go to school & for various other reasons. Yesterday I saw her honk at her kids playing in the yard, as she was leaving, to tell them to watch the youngest while she was gone. This crap happens as early as 5-6am, and as late as 11pm. I can't believe how rude it is! I work odd hours & when I get a chance to sleep in, it's a special treat that I don't appreciate being ruined. I want to talk to them, but in all honesty I don't think it's going to go very well. She seems like a total jerk. And I have a hot temper. Also her husband is a refrigerator shaped wall of flesh. His friends seem to be similar.
I'm thinking of chicken ing out & sending an anonymous letter. Any suggestions? 4951

Honestly I would do the anonymous letter. Normally I would say talk to them, but trust your gut on this one. 4951

Do you live alone?  If so, the letter is the way to go.  You don't want to be a target of her wrath. 4951

You could be a real witch about itEmoticon  Get an air horn and when you hear her blow her horn at 5am, run up behind her car and let it go.

@Fallon: I got a good snort out of this suggestion - thanks for the image this morning! I don't know - it doesn't seem that talking or writing a note would help in this situation. It's a (stupid) habit this person does. We had an old neighbor who was "honk happy", too. We just put up with it. (Not helpful - I'm sorry!)

My dear, are you THE ONLY ONE in your neighborhood? Why not ask around and just see if anyone else is affected by this. You cannot be THE ONLY one who is awakened  by the 5 AM horn, or bothered by the 11 PM horn blasts.....think about it, look at the proximity of the other houses. Go and talk to them and just ask: "Do you EVER HEAR the honking very early and very late? How does it affect you?" Then listen.....maybe they have fans going in the house and don't hear it, or MAYBE THEY DO HEAR..........Then, if anyone else is bothered,....join forces, don't go alone....people like that can turn into a nightmare. Check THE LAW. There have to be DEED RESTRICTIONS. If there is nothing in there about not disturbing the peace THERE SHOULD BE.....so not only should you have the other neighbors on your side, but the same people who tell you to CUT YOUR GRASS or who can literally take your house away from you, should also have power to deal with such a home owner. Just think, if they don't like how someone's yard looks and can legally take the house, how much more they can do when a neighbor is a menace and a threat to others. Now, if she does become a problem, the other neighbors NEED TO KNOW  Look at how things are in the world today, if that family can treat YOU badly, what's to stop them from becoming a problem to anyone and everyone else there. This is not a time to deal with a bully alone....there is strength in NUMBERS----so involve the neighbors from the get go....you KNOW they cannot approve---even if they have lots of noisy things inside their house or sleep so soundly they don't hear it.Not only that DOCUMENT IT. Don't you have a video camera? That is how a lot of things are proven these days...do you ever watch the news? Ever hear of how things are revealed, what REALLY  happened when someone discovers a video of a crime???? Then the news media gets hold of it and the whole world knows.....Cameras don't cost nearly as much as they used to and you can buy whole sets all over the place now. She really doesn't want to be THAT FAMOUS, or rather INFAMOUS. But if you can get the PROOF then if push ever comes to shove, EVERYONE will know who's in the right.Personally, someone broke into my house long ago, I wake up at the drop of a pin, and I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from....you have the RIGHT to live in a nice quiet subdivision and that is what you were promised when you moved in...so use everything at your disposal, and if ever there is need for PROOF---have it documented. People even put video cameras in teddy bears now, and so there is a very simply way of you setting up something to get your proof,...just do it! And like you said, you already know WHEN she does it, so it won't take you all that long to get the proof. 4951

I would write the letter.   Be as nice as possible about it, and mention how awkward you thought it would be to approach her in person.

She really might not be aware that it's bothersome. Hard to believe though... :/

I know how you feel.  We have a neighbor with 6 dogs that bark all of the time!  We can't go in our own backyard without the dang dogs barking at us.  And it's those little yappy sucker too. lol 4951

I had this problem with a Harley owner. First I got to know him then I joked about not needing an alarm clock at 5 am. He laughed but best part he actually made the effort to be more quiet. Humor can be a great tool. 4951

@aggiebutterfly I think I will leave a letter. I live by myself & don't want to risk kicking off any craziness. If it persists I will contact the HOA & the owners of the home (the honkers are renters).
All my neighbors are friendly enough, but we pretty much keep to ourselves & I really like it that way! Hopefully the letter will help, if not I'm going to start a strategic campaign to make them so miserable they'll be begging to move on to a different house. 4951
