Having dealt with a close family member who had a drug problem for years and living with the stress and family problems it caused, I have to say I am disappointed in the attitude several of you who frequent this site have with marijuana. I don't care if you think it's no worse than alcohol, the fact is, marijuana is still illegal. What do you tell your kids, that it's OK to break laws that YOU don't agree with? I worked as a nurse for over 20 years and saw the effects that drug use had on several innocent babies who had the misfortune to be born to "parents" that showed up to OB visits high, slurring their speech, etc. I know of someone who thought she was just taking one hit off a simple joint that turned out to be laced with cocaine. She ended up driving the wrong way down a Kingwood street causing a wreck that thankfully, didn't hurt an innocent person or her. Shame on you all and for the sake of the rest of us that have to drive the streets with you, Grow Up!!!!!!! 4951

@southern belle: So of course you must be in favor of outlawing alcohol.  That would be logically consistent.and cold medicines, and well lots of stuff.  There are people walking around loaded up on LEGAL meds that make pot seem like decaf tea.Pot is illegal for political reasons.  Alcohol (as I can attest to from last night) is far harder on the body than pot.  Babies born of alkies are messed up.  Drunks are often more violent and belligerent.  People OD on booze in colleges all the time.  (has anyone ever died from pot???).  I could go on and on and on.If I were king, I'd be more likely to ban alcohol and legalize marijuana.

@southern belle: The simple fact is if marijuana was legalized, that girl would have been able to get it from somewhere other than off the street-it would have been regulated and not laced with coke.  As a nurse, you also probably saw many moms that showed up to their appointments drunk and wreaking of alcohol.  Heck, I have seen many pregnant women smoking!  The effects of both of those on a fetus are just as bad as smoking a joint. As a mom of a child who could possibly benefit from medicinal marijuana I think you are quick to judge and lump everyone in the same category.  I have never had a joint and don't plan on it but if medicinal pot could help my child, you are d**n right I would do anything to give her a chance to try it.

@southern belle: OH, and I do tell my kid this.  But be careful not to get caught and also to be mindful of circumstances.Laws made by vested interest (lobbyists) and fools aren't worthy of being followed.Example, it is a rule in school not to fight.  I tell my kid that if he is being constantly bullied by someone that he MUST fight back.  Sure, follow that rule if you want to have a target on your back for the rest of your educational experience. And I practice this in reality.  Just a few weeks back, one of the known bullies tried to pick on my son and got some pay back.  I was proud.  School was upset.  He got a conduct slip from them and ice cream from me.So, yeah, many laws and rules are designed for the benefit of a few and not the rest of us.

The fact is, I don't drink and drive, knowing that driving under the influence is not only dangerous but also ILLEGAL. And your point is moot, since marijuana is still illegal and alcohol isn't. Having the occasional glass of wine inside the comfort of my home is not breaking the law. I don't give a rat's behind whether you smoke it or not, it's your life. You are allowed your opinion as I am. I am just saying that some of you guys on here seem to flaunt your weed usage among comments about your children, families and such and, I have to wonder how you justify your usage of it to them. Also, why is anyone even bringing up medical marijuana that is regulated, that wasn't even part of the discussion. The discussion was about weed usage.   4951

@southern belle: How do you know anyone is using it?  Just b/c they have opinions that it should be legal, does not mean they are using it.  How dare you jump into ASSuming that b/c they believe it should be legal that they are breaking the law by using it and in front of their children.  Get off your high horse and let them/us have opinions just like you have yours.

@southern belle: And would be illegal regardless of any substance that caused the "influence".   Moot point.I don't smoke pot ONLY because I get drug tested at work.  I wish I could.  It cures the migraines that cripple me for days on end.  And yeah, in the past, I have tested that.  It was the best migraine med I have EVER used and the safest.   FACT.So, people who want to keep me from being able to use that cure, really **** me off.Maybe we should ban other medical treatments that work, but can possibly be abused. Nanny state at it's finest.  And if people want to smoke it just for fun, who cares!  I'd rather it be regulated (safer) than not.  Anyone can buy pot now, but it's not always pure because of our asinine laws that keep it in the shadows.Let adults make their own damn decisions.

@Copernicus: Not to get off subject, but have you found anything else that helps?  My DD(very young) has crippling migraines that used to cause her to bang hit her head with her fists to make the pain go away.  She also loses vision in one eye. Pain meds don't work on her, just wondering if you have found something that works.

@Okiedokie: Magnesium, b complex (make sure to use kinds with methylfolate instead of folic acid), no MSG EVER, test for food issues vie elimination diets (tomatoes andd beef give me HELL migraines).  Food testing does not mean allergy testing.  It's not an allergy trigger, but substances like glutamates and tyramines that trigger it.I've tried everything under the sun.   The prescription meds can cause strokes so I stay away from them like the plague and the SSRI/SSNRs cause many other issues.Since she is young, your best bet is not to use any med (including pot of course) and go with magnesium, b complex and food testing.  Magnesium can be used at early onset as a migraine abortive.  500 mg (but will cause loose stools....tmi but needed to warn you).
