We just can't keep every old sentimental building in the city.  I can certainly understand those who are sad that the Dome will soon be demolished, however, I don't think funding to save it, given the other new stadiums and facilities, should fall to the tax payers. I would support its revival, 100% in fact, if the Preservation Houston folks could/would find private funding for the project. It's sort of like "we want it but we want you to pay for it" philosophy, and this country has just way too much of that mindset right now. You want it, you pay for it. 4951

Way cheaper to tear it down than renovate it. Sometimes practicality wins out. In all honesty, there isn't a lot of demand for something that big that has to be tweaked no matter who buys it. 4951

It's about time. Houston already has a bad reputation of being an ugly city. Tearing it down vould only help clear up that image.

It is/was an eyesore. Good riddance!

I am glad it will be gone! Too expensive to renovate at the taxpayers' expense! 4951

I'm glad that taxpayers rejected over $200 million to do "something" with the Astrodome.  It still costs $2 million per year to keep it from deteriorating. Yes, it was the first of its kind, but it's time to tear it down. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: Feel the same way... but now the county judges have one other option to save it, which we will hear about next year. Hell its going cost some big money to bring down the Astrodome. If all fails lets have the inmates in jails tear it for free.

@Sniper12:  The judge said that if this bond didn't pass, the dome would be torn down.  Now that the bond was rejected, he is waffling and trying to find another alternative.  They claim it will cost at least $20 million to tear it down... that is BS! 4951

In other words, he was lying to the public to get votes.  Is he associated with Obama's administration also?  WOW!  When will the lying end? 4951
