With all the rain and hail we had I filed a claim to our insurance because there are some water markes on the ceiling. I think because I said hail damage they want to only fix the inside and not the roof, should I have said water damage, can I make another claim or call a roofer to inspect the roof? Does anyone have a good roofer that will deal with the insurance company? 4951

Hail IS water, it melts pretty fast.

That being said there was various rain systems that moved through here. They will check that and see its true there was rain and hail. It's one thing to have an isolated area with an issue vs. a roof that is shot.

No need for another claim. Your ins. Co will send out an adjuster to look at it and apply your coverage to the situation. You can always get a second opinion from an independent roofing company and it sure wouldn't hurt. But the age of your roof may matter if it's older. If it's newer, You may just need a repair of some kind.

Good luck.

The adjuster did come out today and said they saw no damage from hail to the roof. They are only wanting to fix the inside. I have never done this before and know nothing so I don't know what to do. 4951

@YvetteLara:
How can there be leaking if there isn't damage? The water had to get in there somehow. Tell them you want the SOURCE identified and fixed.

I know when the last big hurricane came through, it did force water through areas and caused some inside roof leaking but that took hurricane force winds. Under normal conditions that doesn't happen unless there is a hole or some other damage. 4951

Water penetrating the roof is not unusual from extreme weather conditions. Most roofers make money by selling new roofing work, so roofing inspections by roofers is probably not a good idea. Best to do is a visual inspection by yourself; Are shingles missing? Are the shingle edges curled upwards? What is the age of the roofing shingles? Your insurance will only cover damage,  so, if your roof is fine, they won't cover replacement costs. 4951

My wife's friend had the same problem with leaking from the roof and damage some sheet rock. She called a roofer and said as expected she need replace the roof. My wife and I were at her house and she told me about it and I said let me take look at it. what I found that the roof is 8 yrs old with 30 year shingles. The problem was the plumbing vent pipes covers were crack and just worn out and when it rains the water went pass the gasket around the pipe and leak inside.So I ask her to turn on her water hose and spray on each vent pipe on her roof and there it was water running down the pipe and plywood.She got her family friend to replace the covers and no more leaks all under 250.00Below is a sample pic of the vent cover and that black gasket that wears over time...
