What traditions, family or holiday, do you enjoy or your kids enjoy?  I want to start some for my DD.  Making some lasting memories and predictable things to look forward to.  4951

Gosh, I'm going to sound like the biggest Grinch. I could hibernate through the whole holiday season and be just fine. 4951

@mpjp0907: Yeah, drinking hot cocoa with the fireplace going while you've got the A/C cranked up so you don't sweat your nads off.

Lol@wskytngofxtrt!    We will miss being able use the fireplace to actually warm the room.  Perhaps it will be nice and below 50 for  the holiday.   4951

@N+T: How old is your daughter? Does she get visited by Santa over-night still?  4951

I'm huuuge on tradition, so we have tons. This will be our 3rd year doing elf on the shelf. I also do an advent calendar every year where I write an activity or event every single day for us to do with DD for the entire month of December. We do whatever the paper of that day says. It takes a lot of planning but we spend all month doing fun things together & all 3 of us look forward to it. Some of our traditions I do on the calendar every year are watching old Christmas cartoons in a blanket fort together, we go ice skating every year, go on a Christmas light tour every year, we do random acts of kindness ALL December where we see a random worker at a store or any place of business & randomly give them a candy came & thank them for all they do. Especially if they look like they're having a rough day. DD loves that one. We also wrap toys together to donate to charity. We talk about how fortunate we are as we're doing this & try to instill in DD that family, love, health, & being a good person are what's important in life, not just things. Every Christmas Eve DD is allowed to choose just one present to open from us. That's a tradition that DH & I both did ourselves as kids. We of course put the tree up together as a family. DH & DD always argue over who gets to put the star on top & evvvvery year DH ends up picking DD up to let her do it but then she can't get it straight so she asks him to help. Teamwork. Oh! One of my favs is that we make a birthday cake every Christmas Eve for Jesus & talk about how he died for our sins & what Christmas is really about. Whoever we spend Christmas Day with, either my family or DH's family, we bring the cake with us & sing happy birthday to Jesus. 4951

We do "hide the chili pepper".  The kids and I baked some ornaments one year using some of my wacky cookie cutters and one was a pepper.  We hide the pepper on the tree somewhere and who ever finds it gets $1 and then gets to hide it again.  Those kids can really hide that sucker.  Last year we didn't find it until we were taking down the tree!  LOL 4951
