I have been enjoying pears lately. I ussually stick to Green Anjou or Bartlett but I tried some red ones at HEB and they are delishous. Not sure what type they are, they were on sale and I thought what the heck. It was a good gamble.

I have never cared for pears.  My father had two pear trees, but their pears were very hard.  He said they were "cooking" pears. 4951

I like them better than apples because when they are ripe they are soft enough to give my 13 month  old, no cooking required!  4951

@TheGuru:  I agree.   My parents also made pear preserves out of their "hard" pears.  I liked those.  Cooking softened them.

Had a pear tree growing up, mom used to can pears and we had them all year long.The Red Pears can be wonderful however.I also like the Asian pears, I like the crispy texture better than the soft one. 4951

@FoFa:  I love the taste of pears, but don't like the texture.  My father's trees had very hard pears and every one I've tried from the store was very soft.  I'll have to try the Asian ones.
