I had the unfortunate opportunity to be at Kingwood Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday with a friend who broke a hip. What a nightmare, 6 + hours waiting in the ER and when a room was finally available there was no physician available for 24+ hours. An Orthopedic Dr never did come to the room. I asked for a glass of water as we were told not to drink the water out of the tap (not sure why?) and the girl at the desk told me someone else would have to get it, she was occupied with combing her hair. I spent 15+ years in the medical field and have never met a more lackadaisical group of individuals with the exception of one nurse. I hope I never have to be taken there... 4951

Refuse to go to any of these places. Have heard some horror stories about lack of medical care. Don't know what keeps them going. 4951

My friend went there - she thought she had a stroke. She got immediate attention and had a cat scan within 10 minutes of being there. She did have a stroke I was glad she got good care there. Once she was admitted though, she rarely saw a doctor. I saw some of the food they serve - disgusting. 4951

Not sure about the food as none was ever brought to the room. We went out and brought food back so he could have something to eat... It is just sad that individuals working in healthcare were like that. I worked in healthcare for 15+ years and would have never dreamed of being that lackadaisical towards patients or their family. 4951

That place is a disaster. I have a few friends in the medical business (doctors) and they have told me horror stories. Their best advice. If you can, avoid it. If it is life or death, get stablized, and then et the hell out (transfer downtown). Whoever mentioned it is right. I don't know how they keep in business (thrive?) without getting discovered. 4951

I've heard nothing but horror stories about that hospital. And I had my own really bad experience there. My daughter was born at Reunion birth ctr and her clavicle was fractured during birth. I was referred to Kingwood hospital for an x-Ray for her. So this was the next day, maybe 30 hours after she was born. After a long wait, the receptionist in radiology tortures me with mundane questions and actually is so stupid that she asks if my daughter fell or how she managed to fracture her clavicle. Being that I had sat there for 20 minutes with her thinking I was the patient, and clearing that up, to her not being intelligent enough to realize this was a newborn baby born the day before.... I literally got up, ran into the hallway, and sobbed. Of course I was crazy post-partum emotional, but geez. It was an awful experience and I will never go there again. 4951

I had a great experience there. As great as a hospital experience can be. 4951

We transferred to Methodist and even with the drive down to the medical center the attention, care and treatment is 100% hands down better then the time spent at Kingwood. It is worth the distance to at least have a felling someone cares and knows you are there. Didn't have to watch 13+ hours for pain medication because some "forgot" to sign a chart. 4951

Everyone can find something to whine about if they are looking for it. I am glad you transferred though, that way you wouldn't be sent upstairs to where my wife would provide undeserving top-notch medical care. I have seen how people treat nurses at many hospitals, and it is a *!@# shame. Nurses are not waitresses, maids, or butlers. I don't know how my wife puts up with it all, because if it were me I would backhand every person that came in whining like they were the only ones that needed treatment.  4951

Maybe your wife was the nurse who was exceptional... We treated everyone we came in contact with, with respect and there was no whining from us. I cannot say that about other patients who were in our proximity though. Having been in the healthcare profession for most of my career I 100% agree with you, too bad I didn't / don't know your wife or I sure would have asked for her. I would have made all the difference if we had contact with individuals who acted like they cared just a bit.

They are terrible, and I base that opinion from several visits. And they love taking gall bladders. 4951

I had great care from the nurses when I was admitted in middle of August!  They were the best and could not have been more accommodating.  The only thing I thought was strange was I saw a doctor in the ER but once I was in a room my primary care doctor took over.  Don't they have resident doctors there?  In Massachusetts, you would get a resident doctor if you were admitted to a hospital. I have to say it was great to have a private room but the food is horrible! 4951
