Have never bought or carved a pumpkin? What were you born and raised in a cave? 4951

@choclab: Just didn't have a crafty mother.  I think one of my sisters may have bought and carved one when i was a kid but i barely remember.

@N+T: Not sure the best place to buy around here, but get lots of newspapers to carve on and use a table that is above some tile floor.  It can be kind of a mess.BTW, don't throw out your seeds.  Clean them off, put them on a baking pan, salt liberally and put them in a 300 degree oven for about half an hour until they are brown and roasted.  My kids love to carve, but they can't get those seeds out quick enough so they can get in the oven.  We carve extra pumpkins just for the seeds!!  LOL

We just bought a bunch of them at Walmart last night. They were huge and only $3.88 a piece! 4951

They're everywhere now. Going to a pumpkin patch and picking one out is a lot of fun if kids are old enough to enjoy it.
Do yourself a favor and get the pumpkin carving tool kit. Way easier than a stupid knife and looks really cool!

You can also roast the seeds in the oven with a little oil and salt, yummy and healthy! 4951

HEB had a pretty good selection today when we were there (the one in KW).But you don't want to break the skin until a day or two before halloween or it will rot. 4951

@N+T:

A pumpkin will start to decay almost immediately when carved, usually 5 days is all you get, I have heard if wd-40 is sprayed inside and out when first carved it will help for a couple more days. An uncarved pumpkin will usually last a month or more if it's not damaged. 4951
