I grew up in a small town in NM. Its amusing to look up the local news paper and see what is a headline.

By Kevin Wilson CNJ STAFF WRITER kwilson@cnjonline.com Clovis’ city government’s reach was officially extended Thursday night into the burrows of prairie dogs. By a 6-1 vote, city commissioners approved final passage of an ordinance that added the creatures to the city’s definition of public nuisance and required property owners to, “maintain their property as to [...]

I like reading the police reports from small towns(as long as I am not mentioned). You can't hide anything. They name names! 4951

I grew up a 1/2 hour outside NYC with a population of 160,000 So I guess that's a NO.  My neighborhood had a small town feel.  I Still know & visit  with people I grew up with.  After I got married I moved to the western, rural part of the state & was very comfortable there. I'm truly a country girl even though I grew up near the city.  It was great when you were in teens & early 20's to be so close to such a great city but once you start growing up & and have children it's OK for certain things but it's not like going into the city @ 2am to get a sandwich b/c you're hungry. 4951

Grew up in Illinois... Town of 13,000 people at that time. Now it is about 21,000. It was nice to be able to leave your windows open and not have to lock everything up because you knew no one was going to bother you or steal your things. 4951

Born in Alamagordo NM and live the next 9 years in McGregor- outside of Waco. About as small town as you can get. They had a movie theater with 1 screen and small grocery store ( more like a quikie mart), 1 gas station and 2 stop lights-1 on Main Street(317) and 1 on Main Street(317)and 84. I loved that town. My parents and older sister hated it- but my little sister and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Talk about freedom- we could do anything- we wandered all over that place and knew everyone. When I was 9/10 we moved to Ohio and I felt my life was over - till we moved back to Texas 12 years ago! I don't think I could live in a small town again- I love the conviennence of a big city now. 4951

My mother grew up in a one sneeze town-you sneeze and you have gone through it.  I loved visiting there but I would imagine living there would become boring.  There were less than a thousand people and the closest large town was 2 hours a way. 4951

I grew up in Huffman then moved to atascocita in middle school. My kids grew up, for a while, in a town with a bank, liquor store and a gas station. No traffic light or stop sign. 4951

I was born in Holland Michigan...

I wasn't born there, but I lived in Peck, Michigan (almost exactly on the opposite side of the state), from sixth through twelfth grade.  Very small town, no newspaper, graduating class of 65 kids,  K-12 all at one school.  Haven't been back since I left in mid-80s.  Had a lot of fun in that rural part of Michigan though, doing hay during the summer, while good work to get you ready for football, was hard stuff.
