I'm taking Health in college and I have a question for yall.  My question that I have to answer is: Identify what you believe is the #1 community health problem in your home town and defend your response.  My hometown is Kingwood and I have no idea what our #1 health problem is....  I was thinking something to do with alcohol?  I have to write about a page for this.  I can't seem to find any data about Kingwood health.  Any thoughts would be appreciated! 4951

it would be really easy to write 1 page on alcohol being the #1problem. just google about the teens who crash their cars around here all the time. sad, but true.you could go a different route and write about narcissism, if your class includes mental health issues. everyone is always talking about how kingwood people think they're better than everyone else. that would be easy.with only having to come up with 1 page, you could really babble on about anything. 4951

Go on the internet and google health issues in suburban Houston. What you find will apply to KW. Two weeks ago when I took my son to high school to hit in the cages I found used condoms and syringes in the parking lot. So something related to drugs and alcohol (all ages), teenage pregnancy, social diseases wouldn't be far off. 4951

you could write about how the fumes from everyone not picking up their dog's poop is a health problem.  4951

@taramay: I guess she figured we'd just give stupid answers anyway and didn't bother to check back:"Hmm, maybe KDC people can help me...  I'll just type up a well-worded question here and wait for the brilliance to come rolling in.... and... SEND.  .......................wait a sec, wtf am I thinking?!?"

Yea, I wasn't sure if obesity was the #1 problem but maybe.  Or maybe I'll write about the alcohol problem and all of the car crashes from it.  Drugs, teenage pregnancy, and social diseases are good ideas too.  The health class that this is for is called Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.  4951

@animalluver: I can guarantee you that heart disease is #1 followed by diabetes and cancer.  Obesity is up there too.  Statistically, alcohol and the other things you mentioned happen waaaay less frequently.

Diabetes would be higher but most diabetics die from heart disease before the diabetes kills them. 4951

Thank you mgw300e! I've seen those statistics for the U.S. but I'm not sure if it's the same for Kingwood. But I know it's at least pretty close. 4951
