We are looking for a local Mom & Pop type restaurant for breakfast, not your typical IHOP, Dennys, Cracker Barrel type restaurant. Relocating from the Northeast recently we are really missing our NY style Diners....anyone have any suggestions?non-smoking would be a plus+++++Thanks! 4951

Humble Inn....    Since opening its
doors in 1969, the Humble Inn has maintained the reputation of serving home
style meals in a home town atmosphere. At that time, the Humble Inn was the only
restaurant in the area serving pizza. As time went on, the Inn began serving
breakfast and other items, and then burgers, chicken fried steak, and seafood
were added to the menu.

In April of 1998,
Harvey Trigg purchased the Humble Inn, the oldest restaurant in Humble. Since
their purchase, several improvements have been made to both the menu and the
restaurant.

There is always a
"Daily Special" and the "Kids Eat Free" offer makes family dining affordable.
Daily specials include a wide variety: fried catfish, chicken & dumplings,
liver & onions, salmon patties, chicken pot pie, stuffed bell peppers and
other tasty treats.
The Humble Inn has "down home cooking" at its very best. In our
"no time to look" world, the Humble Inn is the answer. All menu items &
daily specials are available for takeout. The meals are balanced with many
varieties of vegetable to accompany your main course. Everything from butter
beans cooked "Grandma's way" to garden fresh zucchini. If you prefer a salad -
you are in luck. Salads are one of the Inn's specialties, from chef's salad to
shrimp salad.
Other specialties include chicken fried steak, rib eyes, soups
& stews, lasagna & mouth watering homemade desserts
If you come in once, you'll be back.

I was going to suggest the Humble Inn as well.  It's been a long while since I was there, but you do have to walk through their smoking section to get to the back where there is non-smoking.  It's a very old place with no frills, country-style greasy spoon diner, but it is locally owned with good food. 4951

There's also a charming, cute place called The Egg & I.  It is a chain, but it has a mom and pop feel and the food is excellent.  There are locations in the Woodlands, Tomball, Katy, etc.  4951

@donnatella:  We went to Humble Inn for lunch on Tuesday.  It had been a while since we went there.  I think they went "No Smoking" because there wasn't a cloud in the front section.  I have never been there for breakfast, but I plan to.  Lunches are very good!

@yvonnep: I'm from Northern NJ, good luck with that. When you find one please let me know. Everytime we go home, the first morning there we go to a diner for breakfast. I haven't found anything close to a diner feel  here.

@pksbar:  Sad but true.  Classic Diners just don't exist around here.

In Kingwood, there are Chelsea's and La Madeleine that have a good breakfast, though they're not diners. Then in Galveston, there's the Mosquito Cafe- now that place had a really, really good breakfast. 4951

@yvonnep: Nope the breakfast Tacos don't do for me. In fact any type of Mexican breakfast doesn't cut it.I want eggs, bacon or sausage with homefries, rye toast. That's another thing here in Kingwood -- there's really no good bread & absolutely no decent rye bread. Anyone that comes to visit us must bring rye bread or you can't stay at my house.

when we lived in Kingwood we would make the trip out to the "Potato Patch" restaurant , the trip is well worth the food . The meals are delicious , especially the green fried tomatoes & the chicken & dumplings are awesome . They throw home made biscuits & rolls across the room just to give you that "family feeling" & the rolls are always warm from the oven . Check it out & you will go back again & again . Oh they also have "specials ". 4951
