Had a garage door spring bust on us today. Any suggestions / recommendations on who to call to replace it? Estimated cost if you've needed this done before? 4951

I had to look back.  We had a garage door spring break in 2007.  We had Door Mat Services come out.  He replaced both springs (since they were both the same age).  It cost me $165 back then.  I don't remember how we found this company, but it was probably a recommendation from a friend. 4951

I used American Overhead Door. They replaced both springs - I think for around $165.00. It happened in 2008. Don't fool with it. You could potentially warp your door, etc. Leave it to the professionals!!! 4951

Leave this repair to the pro's.  You can really hurt yourself if something goes wrong.  I used this guy last year when mine broke.  He charged about $185 to replace the spring, all of my rollers, and greased everything.http://911garagedoorservice.net/About_Us.aspx 4951

@mm4731:
I thought about trying to fix it myself after watching a few do-it-yourself videos online. After some consideration, I think I'll let a pro handle it this time and just observe. Let me know how it goes though.....I might just be persuaded to change my mind! 4951

@djchavez0921: I am a DIY'er 100%, but after all of my research....the consensus was to let a pro handle it.  He made it look easy, but I also watched and saw just how one could lose some teeth or break an arm very quickly.Crazy thing....Mine broke in the middle of the night.  We were sleeping and I heard a loud "BOOM", so I jumped out of bed, armed myself and sprinted to the garage to see what happened.

@salth2o: I started quoting the "night before Christmas" after reading that.

@salth2o:
Yeah, it was around 10:30 at night when we heard ours go, and down I went just like you. Except I couldn't figure out where it had come from until the next day when the Mrs called me at work and said the garage door would only open about a foot and stop. Then I put two and two together.

Ok, so the consensus is to let a pro handle this and I will follow up with some of the suggested companies.

Thanks all!! 4951
