I just ran across this sad bit of info:   While visiting relatives in Austin, TX in April Richard LeParmentier passed away.Loading Image...Loading Image...http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/04/17/13/star-wars-actor-dies
LONDON - Actor Richard LeParmentier, best known as the commander in "Star Wars" who Darth Vader nearly choked to death for his "lack of faith" in the Force, has died aged 66, his family said.LeParmentier appeared in more than 50 films and TV shows but is remembered for playing Death Star commander Admiral Motti in the 1977 film "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" in which Darth Vader chokes him using the invisible "Force".LeParmentier also appeared in "Octo*****", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", and as a reporter in "Superman II" which starred British actress Sarah Douglas, his wife from 1981-1984, as the Kryptonian supervillain Ursa. His family paid tribute to "a warm, genuine person with an unparalleled joie de vivre"."He absolutely loved traveling the world and meeting his friends and fellow Stars Wars fans - whose tributes have given us all the best lines in this message," Rhiannon, Stephanie, and Tyrone LeParmentier said in a statement."Every time we find someone's lack of faith disturbing, we'll think of him .. He has gone to the Stars, and he will be missed."The actor was born in Pittsburgh but moved to Britain in 1974 where he was most recently working as a screenwriter, according to his biography on IMDb.He was visiting relatives in Austin, Texas, at the time of his death. No cause was given for his death. The actor, who appeared at some sci-fi conventions, was reported as saying of his most famous role: "I did the choking effect by flexing muscles in my neck. It set off a chain of events, that choking."I can't do it anymore because, oddly enough, I have had an operation on my neck and had some 21st century titanium joints put into it."

Any good Star Wars fan knows Admiral Motti from the original Star Wars movie because he was the first person to be officially force choked in all of science fiction. Richard LeParmentier was the good humored, fan friendly and talented actor who played this memorable character.I myself knew Richard for years as a regular on the convention circuit and he was one of those genre actors who understood how important the fans were, and was even inducted in the 501st Legion, as an Honorary Member. He always made time for you, always had a joke and great story to tell. Richard was never anything other than kind, professional and quite good natured. The very last time I saw him was September of 2012, at the Orlando Comic Expo, in which he made a point to stop what he was doing and make my two Padawans feel special by simply paying attention to them. He even took the time to introduce them and myself to his fellow Star Wars celebrity in attendance, Nalini Krishan, (Master Jedi Barriss of the Old Republic.)One of the things that was so impressive about Richard on that day, was that he was able to remember not only who I was, but the exact Sci-Fi show the two of us had first met at more than a decade before! It was a New York Creation show and he remembered! Genre celebrities meet so many people in a decade that you are lucky if they remember you the same weekend of a show, let alone 10 years ago.I also remember Richard looking at my honorary 501st badge that I proudly sport whenever there is even the faintest hint of 501st or Star Wars activity, and laughingly he said to me through a big boyish smile, “I have to get my badge replaced; it has lipstick stains all over it that just won’t come out!” Chiding the accomplished actor I say that I probably have to report the incident to the local 501st garrison for fraternizing with Rebel Slave Girls. We both chuckle and he tells me that he wished the story was that interesting, but that while it was quite funny, it had little to do with metal bikinis, slaves girls; neither Royal or Orion, nor sexy people of any kind for that matter.Ewoks immediately came to mind and sensing a disturbance in the Force as well as a potential article, I asked him to elaborate for me as a reporter for Sci Fi Pulse. Richard politely refused and indicated that he was considering writing his own Convention related book of stories and that the story would be written within the pages of his book. Regretfully, I think that we will never get to read all of the stories that the memorable, dynamic and great Richard LeParmentier had to tell about his time with some of the people that loved him the most!Throughout his long career, Richard LeParmentier appeared in well over 50 films. He also appeared in many television programs, including another science fiction classic; Space 1999. Richard even has credits as a screen writer for British television, along with voice over narration credits for some of his more recent work. But many people will remember Richard LeParmentier fondly as the arrogant Imperial Officer who dared stand up to the Dark Sith Lord Vader in the original Star Wars movie.Sadly, fandom’s favorite Admiral passed away yesterday at the age of 67. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and the legions of fans who will always remember him fondly.
