My 19 year old son has been getting hives for the last week now... They are EVERYWHERE and look really terrible...   I did some research on line, it seem some people can just have issues with them for a limited time frame????   I have cleaned his entire room and washed everything.. Not sure what the culprit is....  Very frustrating....   4951

I've had them before too when I was much younger.  I think stress was the main factor.  Has he seen a dermatologist to make sure it's hives and not something else more treatable? 4951

Sometimes hives (also called "Urticaria") can be caused by conditions such as stress or other health issues. Benadryl is very helpful for hives in my child and it also has a calming effect as a bonus. Changing a/c filters regularly, covering mattress with bed bags to cut down on mattress residing dust mites also might help. A room filtration device can reduce airborne allergens, we got one from Target by Filtrette, we really noticed a difference in air borne particulate and air quality that we bought a second one for our bedroom. Hives can become a very serious condition, I Highly recommend seeing an allergist if this continues. Good luck! 4951

I'd be covered in 'em if wine was the cause.  4951

@Love2Run: It was a BRAND of wine in her case.
Something with the preservatives or something like that. She just never drank that brand again. 4951

When I work around dust, I will break out in a substantial rash but not quite hives. Has he been doing any clean up or yard work? 4951

I asked about the wine because lots of people get hives from sulfates and red wine has a lot of sulfates...   But that was not the cause..  He has not taken any medicine....He did a lot of yard work for my father and got poison ivy but that was about a month before the hives showed up...We also went to the river for a week, and the hives started about a week after that.. No new soaps or detergerents...    4951
