After hearing so much about this place, my wife and I tried it last night.  I was disappointed.  I didn't care for the salsa they bring with chips. We shared a fajita "special" for two (beef and chicken, with poblanos, tomatoes, and cheese).  I liked the tomatoes and poblanos, but the meat didn't have much flavor.  The Charro beans also had little taste.  The pico de gallo was very bland. The atmosphere and service were both good, but when I eat Mexican food, I expect it to have lot's of flavor.Maybe I caught them on an off night, but I doubt I'll go back. 4951

I think you should give it another try. It's very decent local Mexican IMO. I think you have to try a place twice to even get a feel for it. It's just a fact that every place will have things you like and things you don't. Emoticon 4951

@TheTruthHurts:  I don't know..... if a Mexican restaurant doesn't get fajitas, salsa, and pico de gallo right, I'm a little skeptical to try other dishes.

I like Los Vega on Atascocita rd near Will Clayton.

If prices were lower at Pappasitos, they would be my go to restaurant.

@Annie:  I used to love Pappasito's, but  I've been disappointed with them the last few times I went there.  Their menu has changed to fancy, more expensive dishes and a lot fewer choices.  It's not really a Mexican restaurant any more.

I judge a Mexican restaurant by their sauce.  If I don't like that, I won't go back.  I love Chuy's food but their restaurant is a bit noisy for me.  Los Cucos was good too, but same with noise level.  I used to eat at Hector's in Crosby all the time and, at that time, it was my favorite.  The Hector's on 1960 wasn't as good when I tried it.  You can't go wrong with Pappasito's fajitas but their prices are way out of line. 4951

@Love2Run: El Toro in La Porte is a long drive, but if you're judging by sauce, both their green & red sauces are the best I've ever had.

I think the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to were near/in Bakersfield, CA.  I went out there on business and we went to this little hole-in-the-wall for lunch.  I had some pork with a green sauce (can't remember the name) and it was delicious!  For dinner, we went to another place that also had excellent food.  We ordered a pitcher of margaritas.  The glasses came with about 1/2" of liquid in them.  The owner had been by joking with us, so we called him over and asked for "clean glasses".  He laughed and said he just "primed the pump" and put a shot of tequila in each glass.  During the meal, he walked around and would add tequila to everyone's glass.  The food was great, and we were bombed.  We were glad that one of the group didn't drink, so he was the designated driver! 4951

The noise level at TOO many restaurants are off the chart. I want to have a conversation with my dinner guests not a yelling match. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:  I lived in Victorville, CA for awhile but found the mexican food in that state to be very, very different from TexMex.  (I grew up in San Antonio so my taste of TexMex goes way back!)  I can't describe the difference, though, other than to say most restaurants didn't know what a tamale was---and served a big-*** burrito instead.  Now if they'd have 'primed my pump' with Tequila, I would've been a happy camper.  I love Tequila!  Emoticon

@Annie:  Totally agree with you.  I won't go back to Joe's Crab Shack because of the noise.  They play music, and as the crowd tries to talk over the music, they just turn it up louder.
