Anybody else have fabric on their dining room chairs? How do you clean stains?

I am thinking about recovering in faux leather. Especially since I have a kid now. 4951

I think it depends on what type of fabric you have.  But I think you're idea of re-covering them is a good one, since you will probably have to clean them often. And it's so easy to do.  I'm also thinking of doing that.  My seat covers are microsuede and some of the stains are just stubborn! 4951

when I had fabric on my chairs I used Resolve carpet cleaner & a small brush , it worked . But then I got smart & did them in  faux leather & no problems since then . The grandkids can enjoy what ever & not have to worry about spills.  4951

@WJo: was there a good website with step by step detail that you used?

I bought my dining room set about 5-6 yrs ago & I still have the plastic on the seats. The material is very light & with all the kitties, I just figured why remove it. Recently when I went to remove the plastic  I noticed one chair the plastic had a big hole in it & the material under it was really dirty. I'm thinking of buying cleaning stuff & removing the plastic, I thinks it's time. 4951

@N+T...if you mean for recovering the chairs? No I just measured the chair bottoms so I would know how much material I needed , went to  "Joanne's Fabrics" & bought what I needed . Cut out  6 squares of the fabric & stapled it to the chair bottoms , then screwed the bottoms back on to the chair frames . It was really simple  after the 1st one . I used the old  fabric for my pattern  so I did not have excess material . Just be sure that the staples you use are long enough to go thru the material & into the wood on the chair bottoms without going thru the wood . Each chair took me about  20 minutes to complete once I did the 1st one....good luck ! 4951

@Golden Girl...you are 100% correct ! And it's a lot less expensive than buying a new dining room set . I did mine for about $50.00 , that was material &  staples > I'm on my 4th set & it really does change the appearance of the entire room . 4951
