He's going thru a really hard time. Feels he is just inadequate. Just depressed with where he is in life professionally. He's going through some other stuff too, which I would rather not go into. It's so hard to see him like this. Please pray for strength for us to get thru this and for him to feel better about himself. THanks! 4951

My dh went through a rough patch about 10 years ago- nothing helped. Then one day our dd (19 at the time) decided she wanted to try Taekwondo and she wanted one of us to go with her the first few times. It was t going to be me- my ankles are bad and doing anything barefooted increases injury risk. My dh was extremely resistant- he was an overweight, middle aged, depressed man. So he went- the first class hurt...bad. The second class he was hooked. Within a year he went to World in Little Rock and won 2 of 3 firsts in his age group. He had lost 40 lbs, looked and felt great and was no longer depressed. Instead of having a rough time professionally- his phone was ringing off the hook with offers. He gained so much confidence and taking Taekwondo led to other things-he started road cycling and running . At 59 he looks and acts younger than he did at 49.
I'm not saying Taekwondo is the key for your husband but what I am saying is that if he finds something totally out of his comfort zone and works that challenge-it will change him. Guys need "to conquer the world" type projects to challenge them. Guys are like that. They have to crush the competition. Usually some sort of physical challenge is important 4951

I don't even know how to help him right now. He barely will have a conversation with me, and is just so depressed. I'm trying to hard, but it's taking such a toll on me and my health> sometimes, I just don't want to deal with it anymore and just walk out. I want him to get better but he is not doing a lot to help himself right now which isn't helping. I appreciate everyone's advice. I miss my husband and how it used to be. I feel very alone. 4951

@mattem: Sometimes just taking care of YOURSELF is the only thing you can do. Stay busy & focus on your own health and happiness. And tell him you're there for him if he needs you. I've been seriously depressed myself and, honestly, no one could help me but myself. Until I asked for help - and then I had lots of support.  I'm sorry you're suffering.

@mattern  I agree with love2run and i would add you should get some counsiling for yourself.  A professional to help you through this will make a big difference.  don't be afraid or ashamed to get counsiling its a great tool that is very under rated.   4951
