We were seriously questioning the ability of our new A/C but given the outside temp of 107, maybe even a brand new system can't fully keep up. 4951

We have 3 units, one older which works constantly and never fails, one that's 5 years old that rarely works, and a brand new one. With all three units, it's barely keeping it 75. It's truly HOT out there! 4951

  You could look into installing more thermal barrier.  Why do people keep their homes so cold?  I keep mine around 77-78 and it feels a bit chilly at times.  Maybe because I have ceiling fans in every room? 4951

We are having it checked out, but they said a unit is designed to keep the house/building 22 degrees cooler than it is outside. At 107, that's about 85 degrees. We usually keep it at 76 while we are home, but today it is hovering at 80-81, so it sounds like it's working as best as it can in this heat. I'll still feel better after they check it out. 4951

Today is the only day we've had a problem with it, then again it hasn't been 107 until today. There's no way I would be able to stand this temp on a permanent basis. 4951

@Fallon: Cheesecakes have to be baked?!  I did not know this. But then again, I am no Martha Stewart. Do go ahead and bring it right over here if you would!  Emoticon

We set our thermostat at about 77 but keep the ceiling fan running.  We have a window A/C in our bedroom because we like it cool at night. 4951

I have two of the roll around portable AC units. One for the gym and the other  ...I don't know, as a backup I guess.  LOL    But I try to acclimate to the oncoming season early so when the temp starts going up, I bring the temperature in the house up and suffer a little at the beginning of the season so it's not as dreadful for the rest of the year. 4951

@DiverDude:

I just don't put that much thought into my life. I wake up and try to get through the day comfortably.

The only acclumating I do is bringing sweaters or shorts out. 4951
