Does your husband know that some of his friends make racist remarks in front of you? Â He should be told. One of my uncles married a Mexican woman in San Antonio. Â He broke off contact with his family and they claimed they didn't know why. Â The reason was that his siblings would say ugly and racists remarks about, and in front of, his wife.As for weddings, my only comment is that I think people tend to spend WAY too much on weddings. Â Other than that, do what you want to do.
@Retired_Engineer: None of them are stupid enough to say racial remarks ABOUT ME in front of me. I'm always the bigger person & overlook the remarks to avoid conflict, but if it was ever about me or my family, I'd go ape crap & things would get ugly, lol. And it's not his friends, it's his family. They say racial remarks about mexicans at literally every single family event. On father's day, they even threw in the 'N' word as well. I tell DH & he's usually around to hear first hand, but he was raised around it. He knows better & is honestly the least racist person I know. He's so kind & accepting that it boggles my mind that he was raised around such ignorant jerks. It's not his sisters or parents making the remarks (his mom did when we first started dating but hasn't said a racial thing about me since having DD). I asked DH if he thought any of his family would say anything around my very mexican family at the wedding & his response was "They're rednecks but they aren't that stupid." I've asked my dad to say something sweet in spanish during his toast just to take a little dig at them though, lol.Â
