The thing is most employees work on an AT WILL basis. Meaning an employer can fire you for just about any reason as long as it doesn't violate federal law. Texas for example prides itself on being an At Will State. Secondly, I have heard people talk about the freedom of speech aspects. Freedom of speech only guarantees that the government cannot restrict what you say, that same prohibition does not necessarily protect you when it comes to your employer. That's how an employer can discipline an employee for saying or doing something "off the clock" if it believes that action has damaged the company or organization brand. Now I'm no attorney, that's just my basic understanding. Further one has to consider the contract Dean signed with Food Network. Many companies, especially those that offer high salaries, have morality clauses in the contract. Those basically state certain actions done by the employee that cause embarrassment to the company or organization entitle the entity to sever the relationship.
aula Dean, like all public figures can have their
ast or present actions be used against them at any point and time. That's the downside of fame. 4951
