I love jazz music, but in TX those who listen to it are less than the national average of about 20 percent. But the music chosen for the event tonight was Raggae and  Rastafarian in nature. Now I may be pessimistic but putting that style of music in Kingwood which is majority white upper income is a risk at best. Most of the booths were selling Bob Marley t-shirts and hats which is real Texan. Why does it matter. If you rented a booth tonight, you may of had a problem seeing anything. The vendors got screwed. Music was great, But Sat night is the big night tomorrow being a church day and evening service. So the big headline group was a group singing about social justice. The promoters did not consider what that would do to the vendor's who paid a fee to sell. But they did put the country music on the church night.  4951

I heard the music when I went to HEB. Did not like at all. Weird place for that kind of music is what I was thinking as I was putting groceries in my car. 4951

Here is info about it. 3 bluegrass bands lined up for today starting at 1pm.

Looks like it was supposed to happen last month but was rescheduled.

You are missing something here. First Saturday night is the biggest night since Sunday is Church day, That is just the reality. Second, Reggie has less than a 10 percent listener base. I believe I stated I liked Jazz and also Reggie. But for those who paid good money to be a vendor , most we spoke to said sales were sparse . For a good reason.  Now as to how cool the music was, it was fine. Did it meet the demographic  of Kingwood, maybe not. Yes if you want to brave the heat, there will be three bluegrass bands right after you get out of church, skip going out to lunch and head on over. But last night which was the big night it was set for a very small group in Kindwood and hurt those who paid the planners to sell items. 4951

I don't understand what church has to do with a Saturday night concert. Essentially you are saying that your Saturday night was wasted listening to Reggae. I sure hope you left once you realized how much you hated the music. 4951

Some of us go to Church on Saturday night.
ETA, the event wasn't billed as a jazz festival. It was billed as a Reggae Meets Bluegrass festival. It is apparently the first of its kind here in Kingwood. Attendance at first events is always low. It takes time for word of mouth to go around. Vendors should know the risks involved. If you didn't get the sales you were expecting, did you promote the event? Did you advertise your participation as a vendor? There are a lot of factors that go into successful booth sales at events and sometimes you lose money on them. That's just how those things work out. Better luck next year. 4951
