On Saturday I went to the Hallmark Store in the New forest Crossing shopping strip on5805 E Sam Houston PwyHouston, TX 77049-2504 (Wallisville road exit)to pick up a Fathers Day gift.  And in that shopping strip was 5 different people selling puppies!!!  There were pit bull puppies, husky puppies, and some other breeds.  I asked the lady at Hallmark about the puppies for sale and she said there are people selling puppies every weekend!!!Can we call the police about this?  I am sure they don't have a license to sell them.   4951

If they are in Harris County I think it is a $2000 fine.  If not, then they are not breaking any law.  I purchased my Chihuahua on 1960 by the Deerbrook mall about 10 1/2 years ago and she is the "best dog ever"!!!  It used to be like a Flea Market every weekend.  Wouldn't take any amount of money for her and SO glad that I got her that day.  If you sell a puppy to people over the internet or via the newspaper you still don't know 100 percent if they are going to be responsible dog owners.  The purchaser has to be responsible and do his/her research and check to see that a puppy has had its shots/wormings, ect.  and take the puppy to the vet to continue the puppy shot boosters and rabies shot and heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention.  Most reputable breeders don't sell their puppies this way BUT, who knows, the puppies might be very bit as nice as long as they are healthy.  You actually don't know the history of most of the adoption  dogs being put up for sale at the local Petstores either.  The buyer needs to do their research and be sure that they are committed to this little life that they are planning to include in their life. 4951

@mpjp0907:

Inside the mind of a porter puppy seller...

" Gotta sell more puppies, so I can buy more meth, so I can run around in the middle of the night and steal other puppies and make them do it, so they will make more puppies so i can sell them at krogers, to buy more meth...." 4951

Yes, there is a law against it in Harris County...it's something like "Banning Of The Roadside Selling Of Animals". There IS a fine and I do think Doodlebug is right...$2,000. On weekends call: 713-755-5000 or 713-229-7300. Tell them about the bill and ask them to come issue the fine. Tell them we rescue people and the public worked HARD to get this bill enacted and we WANT it enforced (nicely, lol).

I stop and give these POS's a list of low cost spay/neuter clinics, educate them on overpopulation and give them a rundown on what a rescue person's day off looks like in our attempt to put a dent in the 1.2 million homeless dogs in Houston and the nearly 20,000 euthanized monthly in our shelters.

Most of you on this board seem well educated about overpopulation and can figure out what to say. I know it takes time out of your day but we have to keep fighting this fight...one at a time it seems. 4951

Below: A post from an amazing dog rescuer. Very sad, but true. This is how some of us feel every day...not enough of us and too many of them. We feel like we are downing in abused, neglected, homeless dogs and the BYB's just keep pumping them out and selling them to other irresponsible people. I watch my friends in distress and am helpless because I am busy trying to save a few myself too. Thanks N & T for caring and please everyone...stop by these BYB's and try to make a difference...if you can reach ONE that's better than none. Thanks!
Here it is:  I just want to state the obvious. I really truly dislike a majority of the human race. It is full of nothing but cruelty and neglect and people who just don't give a rats *** about anything but themselves.... As a street dog rescuer it tears my freakin heart out almost daily when I have to go to that park and find so many dogs in all stages of neglect dumped like trash. I am only ONE person and I have a heart too and its broken God knows how many times because I have to leave the sickest behind and wait. When will this end?! Why do so many people who go to the Animal Control on Canino across from the park and not help? Why are you leaving it all up to me and a handful of people who sometimes help me? Tired, drained and wishing it would please end. For everyone who has shared, rescued, helped, supported, fostered and even adopted the (hidden for privacy) thank you so much for caring. 4951
