Sounds like a nice vacation. My mind is in the gutter. Not my ideal vacation at all at the point.

In 2009 when the auto industry collapsed, I flipped a coin as to whether I should by Ford or GM. I bought 2000 shares of Ford for $1.76 a share. When it doubled, I sold half. So the remaining 1000 shares were free. I ended up making between 4 and 5 times my money. That was one of the few times I ended up on the good end of a stock. 4951

I think if you have any type of retirement investment that doesn't consist of a cash stuffed mattress or buried coffee can you are in the stock market, one way or another. Even if you aren't a trader, like @GoldenGirl said, if you have mutual funds, 401k and the like, you are in the market.

Just through IRA's. Not enough time to pick individual stocks. I'm amazed that Chipotle is over $300 per share. 4951

Just pick the companies that are doing alot of stock buybacks. Many companies are borrowing money at very low rates and buying their stock back (inflating the value of their stock). They are doing this instead of using their offshore accounts due to the high corporate tax rates. 4951

I go into managed funds mostly. It's too much work to track things and actually make money. But I do dabble here and there.Lately I have been investing in stocks that pay a 10% or more dividend historically. The stock proce is not as big an issue because you just hold on to it and collect the dividend. If you can make 10% in this day, you are doing pretty good.I had to move some money making less than 1% into those. If you don't have a lot of money, better interest makes even more sense. 4951

At the end of May, I checked and I have about 15% gain since the first of the year.  However, June has not been great and it's down to about 11%.  I stick to mutual funds.  Like @FoFa says, if you want to pick individual stocks, you'd better read up and monitor them closely.Years ago, if you weren't getting at least 20% gain per year, you were doing poorly.  Those times are pretty much gone. 4951

QE ending talk pops up now every other week and the market swings.  I dont like QE, this economic illusion is going to shake the market for a lot of folks. 4951
