Someone completely misunderstands you? I usually repeat myself, trying to speak as clearly as I can but sometimes I find myself in situations where I think there is a deliberate misunderstanding other options being 1.) I'm failing at communication and that can't possibly be
or 2.) I'm surrounded by idyuts.
Example, I'm at a birthday party this past weekend and they are passing around cake and Capri-Suns. I politely decline because I don't need all that sugar. People then start asking me if I'm diabetic. I tell them I'm not diabetic, I just don't need the sugar rush. Then people are talking about what I can do to reverse my diabetes. I repeat that I'm not diabetic. And that's where I get stuck. I think I'm clear I'm stating that I'm not diabetic but people continue to tell me about how I can eat cake again by switching to Splenda and asking me if I take insulin shots or if I need to go somewhere private to check my blood sugar.
What would you do? Do I say for the third time that I'm not diabetic? I just escaping by excusing myself to the ladies room.
Also, is it rude to decline birthday cake at a kids party?
