So for the first week of summer vacation I want to do some fun summer things but I'm wanting to keep it local at the moment. We've got floating the river, six flags Dallas, a beach house in padre, & camping in galveston planned for later in the sunmer but for this week i want to stay humble/ kigwood. DD is 6 but we've also got my 17 year old sister in law staying with us at the moment.

On Saturday we had a water balloon fight with 500 water balloons. Yesterday we had a cousins bday party plus the rain, but today we're back at it. I've got baby oil on a slip n slide, a shaving cream fight, & of course swimming on the agenda for today (I bought some new floats for the pool.) I was thinking maybe the splash pad & frozen yogurt at berry pop tomorrow, smoothie making & water gun (super soaker) fights planned. That's as far as I've got. We've got an inground pool in the back so swimming is always a possibility but I want to do some other fun things on the side. Any suggestions? 4951

Bowling is a good one when the weather is too hot to be outside (other than for swimming), and if you have kingwood pool tags you can go on a pool crawl, trying out the different village pools.  We did that when our kids were small. 4951

@buffaloglenn:  There is always the Kids Bowl Free summer program.  You can google it.  This is my 3rd summer participating, my kids love it. 4951

If any of you have never had a shaving cream fight, I can honestly say that it's my new favorite. Under a dollar for a can of shaving cream & MAN do they hold a lot of shaving cream.  4951

@N+T:  With N+T mentioning a corn hole game, I have to remind myself we're talking kids games.  We ARE talking kids games,  are we not,  N+T???  Emoticon

@BooBear: Excellent suggestion!  Both children and adults need to read more!Have the kids read a chapter (or read one to them) then have them act out what they imagine that chapter would look like.

There are also free concerts going on all the time throughout Houston. Maybe not your favorite type if music but its still nice to sit out in the evening and listen. Check discovery greens website and even the woodlands.
I know you said local but both are leas than 30 minutes away.

Hermann park too. 4951

@Heathur: I broke a toe on shaving cream! We were getting a little crazy. It was at our shore house back before some of you were born. Shaving creme & alcohol don't mix!

@BooBear:
I make her read daily then we read together before bedtime. Bought her a couple of workbooks to do a worksheet daily too. I have the intellectual part of summer covered, just looking for some fun stuff to do with it. 4951

Not exactly in our area, but ice skating at the Aerodrome in Willowbrook area off BW8 would give everyone a couple of hours in a cool environment out of the brutal heat.
