My golden malamute mix is growling and showing teeth at my 9 month old when she crawls towards him. I need to get training to fix this before it escalates.
I have had several people recommend www.longoriahausdogt raining.com/default. html
He is very pricey at $540 for 6 sessions .
Any other trainers you could recommend?

I really like this organization when it comes to kids and dogs. They have two Houston area trainers. I don't have personal experience with either since we don't have babies in the house but I would check them out as well. Interview as many recommendations as you can, you will know who you click with.

@N+T: Al Longoria has a reputation in Kingwood for being the best at what he does. He's at every Kingwood event (July 4th, and Jan 1 at Town Center). He does live-training sessions and you can talk to his clients. They seem pretty happy. He's a cool guy too.

I would contact Michael(michaelsdogs) for this issue. Anyone worth their salt is not going to be cheap so if cost is an issue just start reading and watching as many videos as you can and maybe even contact the rescue you adopted from for help and insight. While you're figuring out what to do I would keep the baby totally separated from the dog, you want to avoid a potentially dangerous and fatal situation. Growling and snarling are warning signs. Next comes a bite. Never correct a growl...the dog will go straight to biting.

Ok, so i called Dr. Haug's office and got pricing details.  2hr consult is $210 per hour at her office in Sugarland.  If she comes to my house its an additional $185 per hour of travel charge in addition to her consult fee.  Then for a recheck in 6-8 weeks is $160 per hour.Man, this $h8t is expensive! I did contact the rescue group i got Nanuq from and asked for advice.  http://tvamal.comthey also recommended Dr. Haug.  And said "No matter what the age or circumstances, he can always come back to us.  But i bet there will be no need for that with a little training.  Let me know how it works out"I will have to talk to DH about the $420 consult.  4951

This site has info on other early warning signs regarding when your dog is stressed. It's not a bad idea to teach the baby to give any dog space when she sees any of those signs. Your dog is trying to tell you something with the snarling, look at the context for when it happens and look for the early warning stress signs and see if there is something that you can find to remedy while you figure out something with a trainer. Good luck!

I'd be able to smoke a brisket on my rear if dh found out I ever spent that kind of money on my dog's behavior.

@Fallon:
Ok, so now I have that visual in my head and I don't even know what you look like (I'm thinking Farrah Fawcet only because Fallon and Farrah both start with the letter F so I'm picturing Farrah Fawcet in that red swimsuit leaning over with a brisket on her. It's on the beach of course, bonfire and tiki bar in the distance). 4951

Good luck with this!!!  I am in NO WAY making an "excuse" for this behavior, but maybe he feels neglected a bit??  I have no idea what you are dealing with, and I really hope you find the trainer for you!!  I would definitely invest in the training.  AND, give Al a call and see what he says......????  Good luck!!  Keep us posted. 4951

We personally used Al Longoria for our shih-tzu, Smores and oh my gosh it is worht EVERY cent!! He is awesome. I teased him and called him the dog whisperer.  We went from jumping up and down, barking and growling to sitting in Al's lap and wanting cuddle time. If you can, I would certainly use Al. 4951
