Many churches are deciding if they will continue to support scouting since gays are allowed to join.  What are your thoughts on the matter?  4951

Why should they? Should they support planned parenthood? Be a sponsor of the Abortion Doctors of America?Maybe so called churches like the unitarian's and episcopalean church's can support the scouts. 4951

Honestly, if my church supported the Boy Scouts after the decision of allowing gays.  I would find another church.  I don't judge for being that way, that's not my place, I have cousin who is lesbian and love her the same.  But I do not support that kind of lifestyle.  4951

So, what about all of the businesses that your church uses; printers, contractors, caterers, florists, lawn maintenance, etc. My guess is that those companies don't ban gays from being employed there. Should your church only do business with gay prohibitive businesses? That would be hard to do. Chances are, a church supported scout troop won't have gay kids breaking down the door to get in.

In fact, i bet that if it wasn't in the news, no one would notice the difference. 4951

Not to mention those gay people spend money so your homophobic churches can get fire and police protection. Two services that your churches suck at the gay teat on. 4951

@EvanCarroll: you make it very difficult to agree with you. You can just as easily make your point without being an *** about it.

@EvanCarroll:  Removing myself from a situation I don't like is not judging... So if I were with friends who decided to do illegal activity and I removed myself from the situation, I'm judging them... Go figure, dude.

@EvanCarroll:
When was it the churches responsibility to provide police and fire protection for gay people?  I pay taxes that provide protection for gays.  Why are you even on this thread being an atheist.  If you don't believe in God what do have to judge morality by?  Or are you trolling for some nibbles?  4951

@cooped: It was never the church's responsibility. And, that's the irony. The homophobic church does not service the gay community in anyway whatsoever, in fact they boycott organizations that merely don't judge homosexuals negatively. However, the homosexual community pays taxes which in turn alleviate the tax burden that would otherwise be placed on the religious community for things they need: like police and fire protection for their church, and roads for their parishioners to reach it and so forth.

@butterflykisses: Yes, if you judged them and decided their activity was illegal and that you shouldn't hang out with them because of what they do, you've quite literally "judged" them.

@BooBear: Yes, I should have excluded those explicitly. There are some reasonable non-bigoted faith-based institutions out there, like the UU.

Since I go to one of the "so-called" churches (Episcopalian), I suppose my church may support scouting.   Something I find ironic here, is that scouting is for children, right?  To build character, right? Then why would accepting *everyone* no matter what, be such an issue? This will weed out the adults who want to pass on judgmental attitudes to their children.  I would go ballistic if one of my kids was gay, and I don't think it's natural BUT I (and I have taught my kids this too) show the same care and respect to everyone.  If the churches don't have meetings someone will open their doors to sponsor, I'm sure. 4951
