I think me and @EvanCarroll might actually agree that this is wrong.http://blog.heritage.org/2013/05/29/the-rich-and-famous-at-the-farm-bill-trough/ 4951

We'd probably agree on a few things if you weren't so fixated on being wrong all the time. But, yes I agree the farm subsidies have got to go. 4951

farm subsidies

@EvanCarroll: Have saved some family farms.
So you are maybe willing to sacrifice family farms for the corporate farms? 4951

@FoFa: Farm subsidies don't save family farms, they kill them.

@EvanCarroll: Um, I come from the farmland, I have first hand experience with my relatives.
So how are you familiar with it? 4951

Farm subsidies are just another example of a good idea gone bad in the hands of govt.

@FoFa: I sell properties to farmers, understands economics, and I'm not stupid. Small farmers don't get farm subsidies, big farmers get farm subsidies. That which helps big farmers, disadvantages small farmers and makes it harder for them to compete.
If it wasn't for large farms getting subsidies to expand supply above what the market demands in massive monoculture grows, you'd have more organic and local farmers. 4951

I think that concept is a bit simplified Evan.  Farmers (any) need to be savy business folks, understand and anticipate future markets.  Subsidies are bs for large or small farmers.  The concept that I can buy today and pay next year based on my anticipated yield is the illusion the entire world suffers from.  Organic is a smaller market with a higher price point.  Local farms....take a drive around Houston outside the beltway. 4951

Apparently kingwood has plenty of farmers too. Just plug in your zipcode in this database: farm.ewg.org/

@KellyG: Except they're not really in Kingwood. Smesny Farms is in Dayton. And, it's apparently a farm with its own airport.

The number that I always hear touted is 10% of the farmers receive 75% of the subsidy. 4951

@EvanCarroll:
The actual farms are not in Kingwood but the owners of the farms live in Kingwood. These aren't farmers who live and work the land but rather investor/hobby farmers.
