We have to make a hard decision right now but know it's the best for our family. I am having a really hard time dealing with it. It is going to disrupt our whole family and my kids stability but must be done to save our family at teh same time. I am so torn about it. 4951

@mattem:  Make a list of all of the positives and negatives for each case.  Give each a score 0-10 (0 being little or no effect on the family, 10 being the absolute best/worst things for the family).  Total up all the positive and negatives.  Try doing it with your family so you make sure you consider all angles.  The discussions are the critical part, so the process is more important than the score. Writing them down just helps organize everyone's thoughts.Good luck to you and your family!

The hardest decision I ever made was to get a divorce,,, it was not the divorce part,, it was knowing I was leaving the kids... but the relationship had gone to hell,,,
I am paying for it now. I truely regret not being with the kids,,, I dont regret the divorce. If they lived close by,, it wouldnt be so bad...

really think thing through,, and remember if you must,, then do it,, 4951

I don't know what your decision is but the #1 thing is you are thinking about your family and not just yourself. That already says something all on its own. If you are a Christian, pray about your decision. Some of the biggest mistakes in life are made when we do things on our time and not His. 4951

We need to move to save $$. We are barely makin it right now. We can't save, go out or do anything. The kids will have to share a room which will suck too. I'm just sad. I love our house and neighborhood just can't afford it. We've been going thru a hard time the last couple of years just feel like I've failed. Have moved a couple of times. Been in this house for 2 years. My husband has been thru layoffs but has a good job now. Just sad and confused 4951

You only fail if you give up completely. I've been there before myself. It's really trying and hard. If you have a strong family unit together you will work thru it. Don't give up and eventually it gets better. 4951

We would love to find a house instead of having to move into an apt. Our kids will have to share a room and that will suck! If anyone knows of any houses that would be great. We work hard and earn good $$ but just have to get bills paid off so we can be happy. Please keep us in your thoughts . There's just not much out there in apts or houses. Can't believe apts are so full! 4951

Good luck on your decision.  Relationships are stronger and better without financial stress.  Plus your kids will learn a valuable lesson...'do what you need to do in order to survive and also be proud of your decision'.   Sometimes life throws us off for only a short time, its how we handle it that defines character.  It might feel like a set back, but it sounds like its the best thing, for right now.  (I did the same thing last year, moved into a little apartment after I sold my house so I could finish school.  Some people mentioned the step back in my life *** grrrr***, while others knew it was a step forward, just with less 'stuff'.)Try searching Craigslist for places.  Also, some of these 'old skool' people still advertise in the greensheet or other local papers about places for rent.  4951

It's just a house. Four walls and a roof. The people in it make it a home. You can make a home where ever you deside to live.  We moved from a big fancy neighborhood with a big mortgage to an older , not fancy neighborhood about 4 years ago. We pay $400 less a month and have a 15 yr mortgage instead of a 30 yr. was worth it and we r just as happy and have made some good friends in this neighborhood. We also have a 5 figure savings account and no credit card debt now. Would of been a lot harder to accomplish that with the big mortgage. 4951

I say dump the house and get in to something more affordable.  Start saving and building your future.  You will be a better parent without financial issues. 4951

A couple of quotes from Dave Ramsey:

"Beans and rice, rice and beans".

"Live like no one else now, so later on you can live like no one else".

Worked for me. Good luck to you and your family with whatever y'all decide. 4951

I grew up in a house that was about 800 sq ft.  My brother and I shared a bedroom that barely fit two twin beds and a chest-of-drawers.  My two sisters shared another room that was the same.  Sure, I would have liked my own bedroom, but that's life.  My father sustained a back injury when we were little and we had to live off of free commodities (cheese, butter, peanut butter, etc). Things were tough, but we stayed together and got through it. 4951

Worked for us! I give all the credit to DW for doing the Ramsey plan and getting us to where we are. 4951
