(Red) Zinfandel, especially RavenswoodMerlotDepends on the food I guess.  If you've never had zinfandel, you're really missing out.  Don't let "white" zinfandel fool you - the red (original) version is very bold and goes great with spicy food. 4951

I like the Apothic red blend & the Arizona Stronghold AZ Red is really good too.
If you like trying new wines you should go to a new liquor store I checked out last weekend. It's called Goody Goody & it's next to the old Academy by the mall. They've got a MASSIVE selection of wines & liquor, plus it's really cool inside, prolly the prettiest liquor store I've ever been in! I wish it was in a nicer location, but beggars can't be choosers. 4951

@mgw300e: That is one of my favs too.  When i lived near Napa California i went to the Ravenswood winery in Sonoma and did a sampling.  Good stuff.  Can't go wrong with anything by Ravenswood.

The kind that others drink from twist-off tops. It's cheaper and since I don't drink wine, keeps more $ in me pockets!

I'm such a cheap bass turd. Reason #64 as to why jax is still single. 4951

I love big bold reds and my favorites tend to be Argentinian Malbecs such as:   Terrazas Reserva   Callejon Del Crimen Gran Reserve   Antigal   Tarquino Also a big bold Merlot is great too. I usually ask the wine steward at Specs for a good recommendation on what is new and fabulous because there are so many wonderful choices. As far as white, I love Moscatos (there are several reasonably priced ones around) but Petalo is my favorite, followed by Gabbiano. 4951

I'm not a red wine drinker but thought I would give props to the young man who works in the wine dept at HEB.

They lured him away from Spec's and he is super friendly and filled with knowledge. Lou (my favorite HEB employee) always refers to him as the Boy Wonder. 4951
