I have been working with my daughter to eat finger foods for a couple of weeks now.  She would just gag  or spit it out.  Finally, today she had a break through and ate some tiny pieces of banana and yogurt bites with out gagging or spitting them out.She has trouble figuring out how to put the food in her mouth.  She ends up sucking on her fingers more than putting food in.  But it is a good step.  It is exciting to see her grow into a little girl. Any suggestions for other easy finger foods to try? 4951

@Okiedokie: even  without teeth?  Not sure they are soft enough for her to handle just yet.

@N+T: Mine was born with her molars.  I craved milk the last trimester.   She liked the teething biscuits but they were really messy.  You don't have to have teeth for those.  She only had them a handful of times b/c I hated cleaning the mess.Gerber and some others make the little dried fruits that dissolve. She loved those also.

Grand baby loved the yogurt bites. Mine loved the biter biscuits even though they were messy. 4951

Buy yo baby yogurt. Put it into a ziplock Baggie. Cut off tip of Baggie like a pipping bag and squeeze out little bit size pieces onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment. Put the cookie sheet in freezer. Once the bites are frozen you can store in air tight freezer container. So much better than those freeze dried yogurt bites! 4951

Oh and if she doesn't have teeth yet I wouldn't give her much more than banana. Maybe avocado? 4951

If there's no teeth and she's not really getting anything in her mouth, I wouldn't push the finger foods at all. If you do offer any, it should be the messy overripe banana and avocado and that's about it.

Once she's better with her aim and gets some chompers, then you can introduce other things. Nutritionally, she still only needs breast milk or formula. Baby foods are just for practice and fun. 4951

We enjoyed using a mesh teether so our kiddo could have cold fruits without the risk of choking. She didn't get a single tooth until 11 months though

@Katiemcg: I am trying the mesh feeder.  She just hasn't taken to it yet.  What fruits worked best in the feeder?
