Sharkys on the news this afternoon because someone had food poisoning so bad they had to go to hospital. Health department cited them for worker not wearing gloves and waiting further tests. Scary. I got poisoned by KFC onKW drive 3 1/2 years ago. I called 311 to report it to the city and they went out and inspected. They quaranteened the cooler due to incorrect temperature. Workers there also did not have gloves on. It was horrible, was deathly ill. 4951

Usually there is an outbreak of food poisoning. One person out of how many served that day got sick and then didn't report it for a week, so the health department had nothing to test for bacteria. 4951

I never even considered reporting a place for food poisoning.... I guess I just accept that it happens sometimes. I'm suffering now from some fajitas I got at Kingwood Meat Market. Won't eat there again. 4951

I never even considered reporting a place for food poisoning.... I guess I just accept that it happens sometimes. I'm suffering now from some fajitas I got at Kingwood Meat Market. Won't eat there again.
 
@Katiemcg: Where they cooked when you picked them up, or did you cook them yourself?

My husband cooked them Emoticon which I realize means they could not be at fault. But they were cooked within 2 hrs of us picking them up, and he's been grilling meat for years and never gotten us sick. Regardless, the fajitas were mediocre, overpriced, and tough as hell. 4951

Might be forming an allergic reaction to foods.  I hve a terrible frightening reaction to onions.  Cant' eat them even if cooked.  I get really sick! 4951

Glove use alone doesn't prevent food poisoning. Some states don't even require gloves for food handling.

@Katiemcg: was the fajitas cooked to an internal temp of 160 degrees??

I got violently ill from Saltgrass. All I had was soup & salad, but I was sick for days. I called the manager & they accused me of lying. Nice. I'll NEVER go back. I wish I had known a number to call to report them! 4951

Generally speaking, meat cooked to the correct internal temperature will kill any bacteria that may be present in the meat.  Often times the things that make you sick are non-cooked items, and especially vegetables.  The handling of those vegetables (or unpeeled, unwashed fruit) is how they get either bacteria or viruses on them.   Unfortunately, many restaurant and store employees ignore the "must wash hands before returning to work" signs. 4951
