@zephard:I'm assuming they're talking about turned pens & pencils on a lathe? I do that too! I've made pens with snake skin, a corn cob & all kinds of exotic wood from all over the world. What kind of lathe do you have? I've got a Nova DVR XP.
@WskyTngoFxtrt: At the moment, all I can say is a Jet mini. The model is not in my head
and I am not near it. Will write you back the model if you want to
know.I have gotten a lot of local wood, particularly a specific
oak that fell on my house Christmas Day last year. But have some Pecan,
red cedar, and spalted river birch. Got some Black Locust that has
some really strong reddish grain patterns, and some Box Elder (thats got
some pink running through it), some black walnut, some hackberry, cotton wood and some I not sure what they are, but they make a good pens. So a mix of locals
that I was able to pick up here and there.I have some Rosewood
and Paduak, and have had some interest in getting some of the other exotics from around the world, just have to much right now to go running off buying more.
Got me a small hand full of Cocobola blanks, but not a lot. Pick me up a couple of small oak burls recently, got to let them finish drying.
