Need some advice. Is it safe for me to take the kids camping without the DH? 4951

@Krislee At least have another adult with you. Or just go for the day and sleep at home. Too many freaks out there. 4951

Of course it is!

Talk to the game warden and ask home to frequent you while you are in the office. 4951

I've done it before. Just don't advertise on the Internet where and when you will be there.

Boom sticks are nice to have, but learn how to use one before you decide you need it. 4951

If you talk to others campers make like your expecting some-one who ran to the store or that DH will be here later. 4951

Most of the time I go alone with a 6 year old son. My DH is not much for the camping scene. How old are you kids? I have been looking for other moms who like to camp and perhaps have a large campout with moms and kids.  Never in all my years of camping have I had any trouble. Here are a few things I like to do: 1)  set up a extra lawn chair and hang my husbands shirt on it2) leave a extra pair of mens flip flops outside my tent by the door3) I have a small bat that I leave next to me in the tent4) Leave a coffee mug on the tableFirst appearance you would think a man is in the campsite. 4951

@Becky: thanks so much - great safety tips! The kids are 3 boys: 14, 12 and 10 and a 7 year old girl. I love to camp and I am so glad to hear that there is another Mom willing to camp without the DH. Usually campers are a friendly group so I didn't start to worry until a guy at work said something that made me worry. I'm taking my cousin with me but she is 100 pounds soaking wet so I don't think she'll be much of a bodyguard LOL

I would love to join up with other camping Moms! My DH practically works around the clock so I usually have the kids on my own for stuff like this.

One of my old girlfriends used to go camping with her son.  She probably weighed in between 70-85lbs. She has never had an issue either.       There aren't any people in the camp sights that you wouldn't run into around town.   The gangster thugs are not big on camping. It requires to much work.  ...they don't like work. 4951
