We live in a rent house, does anyone have any recommendations for someone that does mold inspections in the area, preferably free. All the places I found on Google go to the same operator and she is an airhead and not at all helpful to say the least. 4951

Mold remediation done properly is incredibly expensive. You would most likely needed landlord permission even if you were to foot the bill yourself. If mold is a problem for you in your rental, best option is to just cut your losses and move out. Find another place to live. 4951

@KellyG:  Especially since she mentioned that she's pregnant.

@mrskarber: Yes, mold inspection and remediation is expensive.  BUT ... Home Depot website has 2 mold detecion kits for under $10 each.  My advise to you is to spend the money to get the kits, and if you get a hit (meaning a positive result) then let the landlord handle it from there.  Your rental contact may have clauses that protect you.Good luck!- Justin

From what I remember, ALL rental contracts have the legal "out" without losing your deposit if you break the lease for Unsafe Living conditions....So, Get the inspection, let the landlord know about the problem, and I am not sure how long they have legally to take care of the problem, but it is your landlord's responsibility.  GOOD LUCK with that issue!!! 4951

No one will do it for free, but if you're concerned, spend the $250 and get it done..... 4951

If you live in kingwood you probably have mold,,,,

go to lowes,, and buy Algae cleaner,,, usually in the aquariam area,,,, pour that into the Air Conditionaing where where the water collects,, next to the coils.... this will kill off the algae, and will blow into the vents,, then will kill off the mold.

its safe stuff,, your supposed to use it in ponds.... it may take a while to and youwill have to keep pouring it in.

also,,, put some in a spray bottle,,, and dilute with water,,, then spray it into the vent openings,,,

that will help,,,

Mold is eveywhere,, and it sucks! 4951

@KTownTexican: If she is dealing with Toxic Black Mold this could be dangerous to do...she will send the spores off on a wild chase causing it to spread at a very high rate. Toxic Mold about killed my oldest and Chinese drywall turned my family upside down for years, still suffering from long term effects on that.

@mrskarber: More info? Have you spotted mold? Are you experiencing health problems but dont see mold? How old is the home or has it been remodeled at all since 2000?

This should work the same on Chinese.  I'm sure it works just as well on Korean, Indoneisian, Russian, Indian or really any ethnicity. 4951

I do believe I have spotted mold, but I can't be positive. I have quarantined off that area and the land lord situation is a touchy one. There are several places in the area on the internet that advertise a free in home mold inspection but when you call, they give you a starting quote of $300. I was trying not to have the land lord dish out a few hundred dollars if I was not positive it was in fact a toxic form of mold. 4951
