Jim Crane says the fans can put up $10 million dollars if they want better. This guy sounds like a jerk. Message for Crane. You knew you were buying into business where it take a huge payroll to compete and win. Astros fans aren't going to put up with having a AAA team at Minute Maid park for too much longer. Sure you might make money because of the visiting teams, but how much will that suck with your stadium filled with the other team's fans.Until Crane is serious our family will spend our baseball money on college teams like Rice and U of H, heck maybe even trek down to Sugarland and take in a Skeeters game.http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2013/03/15/crane-challenges-frustrated-fans-as-astros-payroll-draws-national-scrutiny/#more-51530In an story that saw Los Angeles Dodgers president Stan Kasten acknowledge the rebuilding Astros have, “More nerve than I might have had in going 100 miles per hour in the direction they’re going in,” Crane openly challenged Astros fans frustrated with the team’s meager 2013 payroll to step up and put their own money on the line.“It doesn’t bother me that people want us to spend more money,” Crane told the Journal. “But it’s not their money. This is a private company, even though it’s got a public flair to it. If they want to write a check for 10 million bucks, they can give me a call.”  4951

What an ***hole statement.  He's certainly not going to win fans back behaving like that.  He has a horrible PR problem after last year and some fans are gone.  You can't get rid of every fan favorite, replace them with virtual no names and expect fans to be happy and content.  Attendance was at or near all time lows.  He needs to wake the hell up and realize that he has a lot of rebuilding to do, both with his team and with the public in general.   And where are his PR people?  They have a mess to clean up after this one. 4951

MLB gave him a $70 million check to move to the AL West. What did he do with that money? and isn't his private team playing in a public stadium?Sadly this will be the first year we don't go to an Astros game. feel stupi for buying the new gear. 4951

I thought the Astros were sold to a group of owners, who would work with the city, and would develope a winning team. They already charge so much money, just to show up. Now they want more,,,, why not people pay it. A good seat could cost about $30-$50 per person,,, not just kids. now you add the parking, the food, the gifts,, etc... you could spend over $200 just to watch a game.

I like baseball, but its gets annoying for the price. 4951

Best seat in the house is at home, on your comfy couch in front of a big HD TV, with your family/friends and your favorite snacks and drinks.  With his attitude and no name players, there's no good reason to go to the stadium now, and spend that kind of money, unless you end up with free tickets, unless you are die-hard fan that loves the Astros through think and thin, and don't listen to an ungrateful owner.  4951

It's not Crane it is Houston. The Astros, subject to market forces, don't have to win. There is no money in "winning." They sell out the stadium as-is, and the brand-name wouldn't be worth substantially more if they won. This is happening to baseball teams everywhere. 4951

@EvanCarroll have you been to a game in the past three years? Vendors outnumber fans. Pathetic when they play deep in the heart of Texas and you hear 5 people clap. 4951

@TexINS: I used to go all the time, no I haven't been in the past year or two. Truth be told, I don't care about baseball. When I used to go, I used to get VIP tickets for free. 4951

@EvanCarroll It's pretty depressing right now unless you are rooting for the visiting team. 4951

It is fun to go, just for the experience, but that gets old after you have been a few times a year.  After that point, you want to go to cheer for the home team, however, with comments like that, people are not going to want to give an arrogant ***hat loudmouth a dime of their hard-earned money.  After that comment, I will only go if I am given tickets.  Crane can s*ck it. 4951
