Funny they still call them food "stamps" - most states issue a re-loadable benefit or debit card. 4951

We need to start embarassing Food stamp receipiants. No more debot card, make them fumble around for stamps. Also, have a food stamps only line with a huge sign saying "Food Stamps Only". Maybe a little shame and embarassment will get them off the teet. 4951

@Horsemagic: Read somewhere the reason they buy the steaks and lobster is they will go door to door and act like a meat distributor and sell it at reduced price.Mountain due they probably keep for themselves... Emoticon

@TexINS:

So should they segregate the lines "line A" people who abuse the system you stand over here "Line B" people who have come across misfortune and have paid taxes with every job they have ever had you stand over here? Hmmmmm sounds to me like someone has never fell on hard times, or is it just easier to stereotype everyone? I personally do not receive FS but after my daughter went blind literally over night from MS and was hospitalized my husband and I didn't leave her side he called into work everyday and they still fired him for job abandonment. While she was in the hospital I passed out and had was hospitalized having to have 10 blood transfusions diagnosed with cancer and two emergency surgerys while my daughter was still in Texas Children's. We had to apply for assistance because my husband was the policy holder to our insurance. So please tell me again why would he have to stand in line and be further humiliated, or was our circumstances not worthy enough to get a little help. 4951

@4psychos:   There is a big difference between people that fall on hard times and need some help to get back on their feet...... and those that live off of welfare for their entire life.  I think there should be a limit on welfare benefits of one year after age 18 (except for those that are extremely and truly physically/mentally disabled).  There are way too many people that are just lazy on welfare, or they realize that they can get more from welfare than they can from a minimum wage job.

@Retired_Engineer:
I completely and totally agree with you,but to generalize everyone and want to shame and embarrass them is just ridiculous.

I know a lot of grandparents struggling to raise their grandchildren on Social Security and food stamps. I don't qualify because my SS plus my part-time job puts me over the limit. If we could get the AG's office in gear and get them to collect back child support from deadbeat parents, many grandparents and single parents wouldn't need food stamps. 4951
