I took my wedding set to Delton Hayes on 1960, and they offered me very little for it.  I know I can't expect to get full price of course, but I was hoping to get a little bit more for it than they had offered.I know not to go to a Pawn Shop, but where else can I go to get a better price?I am divorced and don't need the ring around anymore for reminders... 4951

I know you said no to a pawn shop,  but you may be able to use it as barter and trade it for something that you may need around the house (electronics, tv, furniture, etc...) 4951

@Zokomo Your pic is prettyEmoticon Did u just change it? I'm not hitting on you--LOL! Anyway, I was going to take my 2700.00 engagement ring there, but I won't now. Thanks for the info! The jewelry store in the Big Lots Humble shopping center used to do consignment for rings. I don't know how much you get there. Maybe we should check out some bigger consignment places downtown. 4951

@topcat  Haha..no, I just decided to finally add a picture.  Someone told me to check with Thomas Markle Jewelers.  Thanks for suggesting the jewelry store in Humble.  I may go by there and see what they say.  What about the Diamond Jewelry Factory downtown?  My sister in law has sold several rings there with some luck.  Mine is worth $1600, and D.Hayes wanted to give me $425 for it!!!!! 4951

Try it on eBay. I used to sell jewelry on eBay when I was in college & was always shocked at how much people would pay for items! 4951

@Zokomo Holy Cow! That's like a pawn shop! @OhHappyPets I have never sold anything on ebay. Should I get it appraised by somewhere national like Kay first so I can put that on my ad? 4951

@topcat You can have it appraised, but honestly the cost for appraisal is often more than the jewelry is worth! The people working there aren't qualified to appraise, so it has to be sent off. If you know your diamond size & quality you can look up its retail value online. Or find its lookalike on one of the jewelry store websites & list it for a lower price than that. The best advice I have is to use really good quality pictures with a clean white or black background. And make sure to clean the crap out of the jewelry piece! 4951

You could always have the diamond taken out and have another stone of your choice put in. Or you could make a pretty pendant with the center stone. I know anlotnof people get super emotional about jewelry, but I'd rather have a new piece than a small amount of cash. 4951

@taramay That is an option. I guess a diamond is a diamond, so if my bf uses the old diamond in a totally new setting, it's ok?? I'd have to get a priest to exorsize the demons out of it first--lol! @Zokomo I have a friend that works in the gold buying business and I got good money for some of my scrap gold. maybe that's another option. Sell the diamonds so someone could use them in a new setting, and sell the gold for cash. 4951

@mardigrasman:  I consider the Las Vegas guys (above) to be a lot more honest than the Hardcore Pawn people in Detroit!  This family loves to brag when they rip someone off.  I like @topcats suggestion!

try using the stones in a different setting & selling the gold , you could make a nice necklace or a set of earings you will never get what the rings are worth so why not just make something out of them that you will use & enjoy for years to come ? Plus you will keep the full value of your rings ...JMO... 4951

@Zokomo: Jewelry is a really tough sell...  If you get over 500.00 for it I would be surprised especially from a retailer.. They will only give you pennies on the dollar...  Best bet is to find someone why wants to get engaged and can not afford to pay retail but wants a nice ring...   Times are tough and not many folks have CASH so they prefer to go to a store and charge an engagement ring.... Sad and not smart but true...  Good luck !!!  I love your pic !!

@GoldenGirl:
yeah. appraisals are only good for insurance. You can usually divide it by 3 and maybe get that but will never get what you paid for it.
