Why not ask your kids if they believe in this? Why wait for them to ask you? Shouldn't their mental development be a concern? And, why would you ever want to incentivize your kids to believe in Santa with presents? I understand the festivity: it's like a costume party for parents and it's an excuse to shop and spend money; and, for kids, a time to bejubilantand showered in gifts.However, something seems wrong in telling the kid that if they're rational and reasonable and state they don't believe in Santa that they lose the gold at the end of the rainbow. I never grew up with Christmas presents as a reward for stupidity and naiveté: it almost seems like extortion when put like that.
@EvanCarroll:
Because it is an excellent time to teach what it means to have faith in something and a lesson in thinking for yourself. If as a child you can evaluate the situation and come to a conclusion that does not benefit you in any way and goes against everything those near to you have taught you then you have learned how to think for yourself which is something many adults can't do. 4951
