Heads up Kingwood!!!  It appears that the political powers to be will be having signs put up at our railroad crossings stating a "Quite Zone" and we will no longer have the train horn warning drivers of an approaching train.  This is extremely dangerous.  Please contact our local politicians and let them know that this is a safety issue!!!! 4951

most of the busiest parts of Houston have quiet zones and train/auto have been reduced a great deal. crossing gates are longer and it stops people from driving around. if anything I would say quiet zones are safer than not. 4951

so I was telling my family about this thread and explaining why I personally like the quiet zones when my daughter quietly states, "but the train horn reminds me of you".

My opinion is now changed 4951

@mpjp0907:

I have, and I got used to the horn. I slept like a baby.

Did you not know there was a train near by when you bought the house or did it just magically appear there over night? 4951

They don't magically appear overnight?? No I knew. It's really not that bad. It's when the train consecutive is laying on the horn a gazillion times thy is annoying. A little warning honk isn't bad 4951

Love the sound of the trains during the night. There was one that passed through town during the night when I was growing up. Brings back many memories. 4951
