I wish i could tell when my baby girl is going to sleep for 2 hours or 4 hours.   I don't always sleep when she does.  If it is a 2 hour nap, it feels more like a tease by the time i fall asleep.  But when she takes a 4 hour nap i can get good rest, but i can't tell when her nap will last that long.
When will she develop a schedule for sleeping?
I guess every baby is different.
I have been keep track her sleeping ,eating and diaper changes but no predictable pattern has emerged yet.

i aleays rried to remember that the birth was just as big of an adjustment on the baby as it was for me. they never had to deal with feeling hungry or uncomfortable in the womb. they never worried about anything. the beat and worse advice is to sleep when they do.I would be crying all night out of sheer exhaustion and someone who got a full nights sleep dared to say that to me. i wanted to gouge their non dark circled eyes out with a dirty spoon as i was cackling madly. looking back though it really is good advice.

this will pass @n&t hang in there.

@N+T:
when i used to play nanny for my friend's newborn, i just slept with her. I would nap with my arms around her and as soon as she moved, i'd wake up...

Mommy mode kicked in with me a LOONG time ago... it's hard to learn the sleep cycle thing... I'm also lucky and somehow manage to function semi-normal with little to no sleep...

Can't you keep her up so she will sleep longer?  Toothpicks help keep my eyes open.  Not that I'm saying use them on her...q-tips might be a better option.

It takes time to get settled into a schedule. Your baby is going through pretty fast cycles of growth spurts right now and those always mess with routine. I think if you look at it as a routine rather than schedule, it might be easier to get into a groove. Babies can't tell time but they do learn routines. Maybe the four hour naps follow a similar chain of events and the two hour naps follow a different chain of events? My kids always slept harder and longer after being outside. Even as babies, something about fresh air knocked them out cold.

How do u get a baby to sleep in the crib? She only sleeps maybe 40 min in crib. She prefers being next to me or DH.

@ N&T...usually by 4 months they are sleeping in 3 to 4 hour intervals, by 6 months after they have eaten , burped & been changed they will sleep for 4 to 6 hours . I  usually slept  any time I could grab a few minutes .

As for getting them to sleep in a crib & not with you & hubby ...good luck (LOL) I got my daughter to sleep in her crib by laying a warm water bottle next to her till she fell to sleep , worked great . It took about 2 weeks to get her to switch from our bed to hers .

@N+T:

I always pushed the cribs close to the bed and through the slats just kinda touched their hand. It was enough to get them settled usually. Sometimes that didn't work. Kids always keep you on your toes it seems.

try putting her in and letting her sleep in carrier. or do you have her bundled tight. they like to be snuggled close which is what you are doing by letting her sleep next to you.
