Just some quick thoughts.

Overall very good convention. I was a little upset that they did not include some of the candidates (Cain, NEwt, Paul, Bachmann) but the ones they did have were stellar. I found one similar theme that goes against the stereotype of republicans. All the speakers and candidates come from humble beginnings. These folks are all self-made and embodiments of the American dream. There are no Rockefellers, Kennedys, Pelosi's Heinz-Kerry's in the bunch.

The theme's of free market capitalism, Patriotism (It's ok to be proud of the USA), and individualism were clear and a stark contrast from the "government knows best" and "Craddle to Grave" ideals ofthe democrats.

I do think Eastwood's speech was little strange and not as good as I thought. I guess I still think of him as Dirty Harry instead of an 83 year old man.

I do feel sorry for the democrats. Each election their representatives from Cod piglet, err Code Pink, try to disrupt the convention with  their uglyness (behavior). So child like and reminds me of a 3 year old having a tantrum because someone said "no".

And I liked Mitt's speech. Basically saying he will do what he can to help all Americans by creating an environment for people and business to succeed. That he will be a President and not try to act like a God. 4951

I hope I am wrong, but I don't see Mitt beating Obama in electoral college votes. Clint messed it up. The fact that people are focusing on that is proof that he should have stuck to a simple speech in support of Romney. They are focusing on the right things: unemployment, the economy, national security. If the start focusing on ultra conservative social issues, people will be turned off.  4951

@notfromhere: I feel the same way you do about Obama winning the election.

You make a good point about people being turned off about the ultra conservative social issues. That will be the achilles heel that will lose the election for Romney. Democrats will exploit his views about gay marriage, abortion, etc.and turn him into someone that is too old-fashioned in a "progressive" society.

And Clint is a complete idiot. That speech was awkward for everyone. 4951

I think and hope you are wrong..  I think the economy is so much on the fore front that some of the social issues will be overlooked.....    the Economy is the BIG issue...   Republicas have won in the past with the same social beliefs....  fingers crossed !!!! 4951

Democrats will lose more support next week after their freak show and inability to say why and how Obama will turn things around next term.

That's because Obama is a nice guy. I don't agree with 90% of his decisions, but he is personable and knows how to get on people's good side. I am not saying those SHOULD be the things people focus on, but unfortunately, they are.  4951

I believe that OBama only has the support from the liberal fringe of the party. He is out of step with the majority of Americans. The conservative democrat and independents will vote Romney. The other folks OBama counted on in 2008 won't show up in mass numbers, most will stay home. 4951

I consider myself a moderate democrat, not a liberal.  I voted for Obama in 2008 and will vote for him in 2012.  I The economy is important, but so are social issues.  I believe the republicans are digging themselves into a hole on their stand on social issues.  Just saying.......be careful about predicting how democrats will vote.  I am a democrat and you don't have a clue as to what I think it is important. 4951

@school mom: The same should be said of ANYONE.....we all have our 1 issue that we hold higher than others.  It may be social, economic or whatever. I do have a hard time believing that the 14%unemployed black vote will NOT be as strong as 2008.  Not that they wouldn't vote for him, I just dont see them making the effort like before.  It is no longer a historical election unless of course you might count a President winning reelection with the abysmal economy

@school mom What social issues are you talking about? The democrats stance on social issues are the fringe and most Americans do no endorse them. Did you see your party vote 3 times against having God in their platform? Your whole convention was about how government is better than people, abortion and free birth control. Y'all think Republicans hate women, but you guys had one of the worst womanizer's giving a keynote speech (Clinton).

The economy is the most important issue,. And on that issue failed loses and should be fired.
23 million people unemplyed or underemployed
40% rise in food stamp use
1 in 6 households on some sort of goverment assistance program
$16,000,000,000,000 defecit

Here's what Romney has going for him:
Success in all ventures (business, olympics, Governor)
Man of God
Man of good morals
He will stand and do his best to help all Americans. He will not make one segment our society the enemy.

@TexINS: Except half the country.  Judging by the heated rhetoric by both sides, it seems obvious that the country is split into two warring halves, and while the Democrats do their best to destroy the conservatives, the Republicans will do their best to destroy the liberals.  Nobody is yet proclaiming that they will govern on behalf of everyone--they are simply stating their principles and pledging to follow them once in office.Nothing wrong with that, but we're still far away from having internment camps and the like.

I do not support Romney, never will.  His "morals" are his, not mine.  I support a woman's right to an abortion, I support the marriage of two people (heterosexual or not) who love and support each other, I support requiring wealthy businessmen to pay their fair share of taxes.....just like I do.  My taxes were close to 35%.  Romney paid 13% through tax loop holes.  I think that is a disgrace.  I will vote for the man that matches my beliefs.   That is why I do not support Romney. That is why I will vote for President Obama.   You may or may not agree with my reasons but they are mine and not open for dispute. 4951

@school mom:

Let's start here. I'm gonna call BS on your claim that you pay 35%. That is the top twx bracket and is somewhere near $388,000 per year. Not many people make that. And if someone does make that much, there is NO WAY that person does not itemize and have deductions to reduce that amount. 4951
