I don't think a lawyer will help - you can't divorce your kids. Sorry, couldn't help myself. 4951

any time a divorce is mentioned the 1st thing that anyone ask is ...are there children ? The reason for this is when there are children it becomes more difficult & of course more expensive for both parties in the end.
Â
No attorney is "cheap" or inexpensive....if they were they would not be worth hiring to do a good job for you , you only get what you pay for in the end.
Â
My advice would be to try to have a sit down talk with your future EX & decide what you each want out of the divorce & write it down on paper . Dividing property & personal assets is one thing , but deciding on who gets the children & how the visitation will be divided is another . Remember the state will decide how much child support will be paid & by whom , so do not let that come into your conversation .
Â
Once you have decided how the property will be divided & where the children will be living & visiation you have pretty well got everything done & can file without an attorney & then ask the court to appoint an arbrator to decide on the child support. It will save you both alot of $$ if you can be civil & agree on everything & file without an attorney .
Â
If you feel you can not settle anything on your own then be prepared to pay from $1200. to $5,000. depending on how involved the case is & how long it takes to go thru the courts. Remember everytime your attorney has to file a new action it will cost you $$ & the long it is in the system it will cost you $$ ....good luck . 4951
