When you neuter a dog do they  lose their drive to work and retreive? 4951

I got a new bird dog a few months ago and the vet is pushing me to have him neutered at 6 months but the trainer i am sending him to in November is telling me not to do it.

Just curiouse...... The training is expensive so I would hate to send him neutered and not get the full potential out of him in the future. 4951

My retriever was neutered, and certainly is still spunky. Almost crazy. Please neuter--even if you keep him contained there is always a chance he can get out and reproduce. 4951

A dog's workability is not related to their balls. There are many spayed and neutered dogs competing in dog sports and earning top ratings. 4951

I  have 2 neutered male dogs , they are very active & still want to hump my female who is also "fixed". Being neutered did not stop either one of my males from being super active & trust me they are ready to go any where at the rattle of keys ! 4951

Some trainers believe that waiting until a dog has reached full maturity before cutting allows for the best bone and muscle development.  This might be why the trainer doesn't want a 6 mo. old cut. 4951

I would wait until he has reached his full maturity. Neutering is just beneficial for lazy people who can't control their dogs and allow them to roam. Google the pro's and con's for neutering. It is actually un-natural and can create health problems in some dogs. Spaying females increases their risk for bone and thyroid cancers according to the new data. Whenever you take away hormones you are messing with "mother nature" and there can be problems. Just because a male or female are intact does not mean they have to breed! Spayed females have obesity and continence problems. 4951
