My dd has been running the numbers of the amount of $$ we spent last year on school clothes for her and her brother. She has now decided that since we are not clothes shopping for her middle brother (already off at college and already bought his clothes) she should now receive the amount that we spent on him last year. I tell you there is a HUGE difference ($$) in buying clothes for a high school girl opposed to buying for a high school boy!!!!
With a middle school boy, I just need some shorts, and some tennis shoes. I do have to pay up for the shoes because he is a 12 4E. Otherwise, we don't get jeans until late Oct. He will wear shorts almost until Dec if he can. He does like the Polos V Neck T Shirts, and I don't mind getting him some of those, considering how little else I have to pay for him, not a big deal.
And I got the shorts he liked last year in May at Sam's for $4 each So we are way good to go.
My elementary ages son, has all of his brothers hand me downs. And they all still look new. Was so happy to not have to drop a ton of $$ at the start of school this year.
I've learned my lesson and I DON'T go overboard on back to school shopping. My kids grow so fast that it's smarter for me to budget and buy monthly or whenever there's a need. A few years ago, all three kids outgrew all of the shoes I bought them before Christmas break.
We went to jcpenney right before we left for vacation and bought the boys some great deals for all 3! I found jeans for $3 for the little guy and $5 for my 8 year old. They had nice polos for $7 too. But I WAS brave and hit the mall yesterday cus the older 2 needed shoes. Thank god we went the 8 year old wanted the new style of puma ferarris at journey kids. We happened to be in luck an grabbed the very last pair. We were in and out in 2 hours.
That was the first site I ever used. Got some really neat styles from it. Found it on pinterest. When I first started doing "princess hair" as she calls it, the styles intimidated me but they really aren't that difficult. 5 minutes to do most of them. There was one I did on her where I laced her hair up the back like a corset- it was neat but took 10- 15 min. I haven't done any from that new site I posted but I have a lot bookmarked & she chose one from it for the first day of school. Both sites have a lot of really cute do's.
My boys would mutiny! We are in and out in like 30 min if we ever go to the mall. I park at Dillard's we go in, get what we need and get out. We use to have to go to Stride Rite, but we now go to the New Balance Store by the mall. They carry the 4 E so we are good to go
We do venture into the mall to get the cookies, and to go into Bed Bath and Beyond. For some reason both my boys like to pick out the soap they want for the 1/2 bath and for their baths.
